now im tempted to get the sigma 10-20 f/4-5.6 or tokina 12-24 f/4. apparently both lenses are comparable to the nikon 12-24, yet half the price. so im wondering whether to save up or buy now

tokina is a strong competitor, although many who use nikkor would still prefer that if price is not considered. sigma's advantage is mainly on the extra angle.
ive heard that the 12-24 tokina is really good, but not the 10-20 sigma. oh, and btw i'll probably like to get the lens by dec, so i suppose the tokina would be the best choice
yup. thanks.
got the tokina 12-24 abt a week ago, and found it a great lens. tempted to get the nikon, but then again, the build was great and i read that the qual was not much of a diff; a greater +++ was that the aperture was f/4 constant
now im targeting the 80-200 or possibly the 70-200
I would recommend a Sigma 10 - 20 mm f/4 - 5.6, since you are using a DX sensor and the widest widest one around now is the Sigma.
12mm of the Nikon compared to the 10mm of the Sigma is a big diff. 2mm downwards (Zoom out) results in a drastically diff view from 2mm upwards (Zoom in)
Image quality is not THAT fantastic, but it is tolerable, and I'll take the extra 2mm extra rather than the Nikon superior optics. (Not to mention you save quite a few bucks too)
