Im oso waiting for the FF so my 17-35mm will come in handly:think:  :sweatsm:

Been reading around...KRW seems to think more highly of the 17-35mm...lol even more confused now....

KRW nvr did a comparison with 17-55 I reckon. They are individual reviews and both receive good comments. But end of e day, he prefers WA 12-24 and even picks a 18-55 to a 17-55 due to weight.

In CS, e debate over these two lenses have been going abt for quite sometime and some have even concluded that 17-35mm is sharper.

I've got no comments abt that but all I can conclude is that my 17-55 works very well for me. And it's sharp enough, truly. I shoot digital for my workflow, so I don't need an aperture ring (17-35).

Thanks for all the replies. Yup did a search and true enuff much had been said (even a little heated at times...:) ) Did not look far back enuff during my initial search, my apologies for that, but still not settled on either yet will wait and see and decide in my stride...

well i feel that both are very sharp and well made lens...

but the 17-55 has got more range...the downside is that its DX and prob wun last if an FF nikon comes out..

:D

but not everyone can afford a FF camera...

just look at canon...it tells the same story...;)

Dear all,

I need some opinions from your experiences, expertise on whether should i go for a Nikkor 17-35mm or 17-55mm DX on D2X

I'm in a dilemma on which one should i get for my D2X. I have never really tested on both of this lenses. But i have went through reviews on regards on this 2 lenses. some say that if its long-term use on the DSLR their option is on the 17-55 because of the DX factor.

But some do say that the sharpness, chromatic abbration, flare control the 17-35mm is a better choice.

some reviewers do stated that 17-55mm DX is a derived concept meant for the Nikon 1.5 crop digital sensor.

Initially i'm thinking to get a Sigma 10-20 & a Nikkor 70-200 VR ED Lense. But a lot of users advised me to get either the 17-55mm DX or the 17-35mm lense to replace the Sigma 10-20.
Their opinion is not regarding about the wide angle of Sigma can give but the quality of it can produce.

Thought that they would suggest me with the Nikkor 12-24 but they say that 12-24 still doesn't beat this 2 lenses that i'm asking :dunno:

I would really like to listen to you all advised? :dunno: :dunno:

i think that 17-55 would best suits u

i was in the same position sometime ago and i got the 17-35mm :)

The 17-35 would have my vote. The difference between 35 and 55 on the tele end is almost insignificant, take a few steps forward.

Both are good.

Suggest you go down to a friendly shop and test them out.

Reading reviews, looking at MTFs only get you this far.

As for most of the rest, only you know what you really need.

If I'm hard pressed, I would say that the 17-55mm would be a better option for a DSLR.

Having said that, I got myself the other; because I followed my heart and I knew what I wanted.

17-35:3 votes

17-55:1 vote..thats me

i was thinking about both but got the 17-55 and its a fantastic lens...never leaves me thinking that i should get the 17-55 for better results...very happy owner.

17-35. excellent lens for the top end from NIKON. :bsmilie:

I do not own the Nikon 17-35mm or 17-55mm lenses. But looking at the MTFs, the 17-35mm seems to be a better choice. So far, I personally prefer FF lenses. They work great on our 1.5x sensors.

Besides Nikon 12-24mm, you can also consider Nikon 14mm. I've got a Nikon 14mm. Works great for me!

17-55 for the D2X

17-35 for the upcoming D?X.;p

Hi Nikonas,

Thank you so much for the opinions.

There's few things which came into my mind.

As the 17-55mm is a DX lense, so it will give me a true angle of 17 to 55mm but if i were to get the 17-35mm i would get an angle of 25.5-52.4mm. Hmm that makes me hard to decide as ppl told me that 17-35mm wouldn't be a wide angle zoom lense if its going to use on the D2X because of the 1.5 crop factor, but on the under hand its a legendary lense because of its sharpness & quality that every Nikon fan would love to get one over the 17-55mm.

I'm not saying that 17-55mm is bad, but what i read through out the site alot thinks that 17-35 is better than the 17-55mm

What is my concern like my friends have ask me, wide angle or quality. hmm tough questions.

Does anyone have a sample pictures taken from this two lenses for comparison?
