It's just anybody's guess at this point. And for goodness sake, it's please, not peace ;(

Check The Website Now!!!! It Is Uppppppp!!!!

and and... its 30 new lenses instead!!!!!

Uh? I'm not seeing anything. Which website?

so will there be a 70-200 F4 VR ? :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

URL???
cant seems to find any news from the web... :dunno:

so what? it's a joke?:dunno:

90th Anniversary is in July 2007, so I'd expect them to announce a new camera then (like they've done before with other camera releases for previous anniversaries)

yup. Like the F5 50th Anniv Model & the S3 Y2K RF edition

What is the big deal anyway?
Do you really need to know the exact time it is announced?
It is not like you can go out and buy these new lenses the minute they are announced. It'll probably been MANY months till they hit the shelves even if the RUMOUR turns out to be true.

I for one am not looking forward to the announcement as they will all likely be crippled G lenses and would signal the demise of Aperture ring equipped lenses.

Hope for the impossible. I too would like to have the aperture ring on some of the newer glass.

I think there will not be any aperture ring lenses releasing any more since the launch of 'G' lenses.
And more ED & Aspherical glass/lens elements will be intergrated in all new lens design.
Is bye-bye to aperture ring once & for all....:(

How about an aperture ring adaptor then :bsmilie: Doggone it. Nikon needs to think of those old-school film and manual camera purists too!

(ok ok. I'm ranting here.)

That is not going to happen for new lenses by Nikon, but for new Nikon mount lenses, YES!!!! => Voitlander and Zeiss.

The problem isn't that ED & Aspherical glass/lens elements are being integrated. And it also isn't that the integration of VR is causing the demise of the aperture ring either (the 80-400VR has an aperture ring, VR and ED glass). Even SWM motors can be integrated as the ring motors can be made of any diameter and are not mounted on the lenses where the aperture ring sits. So there are no technical limitations that are forcing the removal of the aperture ring.

All Nikon wants to do is to force people to buy their new lenses if they want the VR or any new technological changes and to wean users away from film. Which isn't a big problem anyway, since VR isn't necessary in the whole scheme of things. I would rather have the mechanical coupling of an aperture ring (that allows me more freedom of the equipment I can use) rather than a unnecessary crutch and an additional point of electronic failure.

You'd be the only other person on this forum with that wish. The others couldn't care less.
