105 days Europe Adventure

Amazing shot...

Thank you very much for sharing.

Btw, you mention the GND filter, is that the square filter and we need an adapter?

Thanks. I'm using the rectangle type GND filter measuring 10cm x 15cm though there are square ones in the market too. And yes, you need an adapter+holder system for these filters.

#134 Schwarzsee, Valais Alps
Wild camping in Switzerland is strictly prohibited unlike in Norway/Sweden, so got to be very discreet about doing it or risk a hefty fine if caught. The lovely spot near the foot of the Matterhorn not only offered a 360° view of the Alps but also kept us out of view from the gondola stations at Trockener Steg and Schwarzsee.

Lol... I once jolted a couple in the wee hours in the morning at Rigi Kulm camping in the wild. They thought I was going to arrest them and started packing up till the sun came up shone on me and they heaved a sigh of relief and smile to me. It must have been an experience to camp around with so many possibilities for shots.

lol... indeed that was the similar predicament we were in too but that's all part of the fun and excitement of doing the forbidden.

Unfortunately the plan to shoot the milky way among the Alps was abandoned because night temperature fell too low for comfort in my jeans after my insulated pants were left in the lockers.

#135 Sarkofagen, Svalbard.
A well known fatal encounter with a polar bear involving 2 girls who attempted a hike unarmed and guide-less took place many years at the ridge of the mountain on the left of the frame. One jumped off the cliff in a bid to escape and survived while her friend got killed. A memorial stood at that spot today. Taken from the summit of Sarkofagen, the town of Longyearbyen can be seen in the center of the background.

#136 Longyearbyen, Svalbard.
Exceptional lighting in Svalbard is one of main factor drawing many photographers here hoping to capture the beauty of Arctic landscape. Typical mountain view seen from the town of Longyearbyen.

Hi brownboots amazing pictures there!

Hi Brother Brown, I saw ur photos and they are awesome! Been a backpacker myself to hongkong/macau in 2007 for 7 weeks, new zealand in 2009 for 7 weeks and just came back from uk for 11 days .. I must say Im grate that although I travel alone totally unplanned with just a lonely planet book from NLB, a compass and a wine flask, I survive all these times. Everytime after my microadventures, I know I have to go back for more, different each time. Just to share my thoughts ..

Hi bro canonmono, thanks for sharing your thoughts with all the like-minded travelers here.
I see you have clocked up really awesome backpacking stints, wished I had traveled as much as you did when I was still young at your age. Good to roam the world while you're young before all the life commitments start coming in at later stage.

btw, nice collection of photo at your flickr but no sign of any from your backpacking trips?

#137 Vordersee, Bernese Alps.

The plan to descent 650m from Eggishorn summit down to the lake Vordersee to camp for the night was disrupted when the trail was unfortunately closed due to falling rocks.
A partial view of Fieschergletscher can be seen in the background.

Hi Mintze, you should go try it especially when you're still young now!

The short stay in France was mostly spent at Disneyland and wondering through Paris and her museums, sort of a break from photography. Some things are better enjoyed outside a viewfinder really.

Other than those taken at Scottish Highlands posted earlier, I did had some pictures of England's countryside especially around Stonehenge. Will share them later.

Thanks for visiting.

#139 Lake Lucerne, Lucerne.
A view of Lucerne, a beautiful city in the heart of Switzerland, seen from the South bank of the enchanting Lake Lucerne with the twin pointed towers of St. Leodegar Church distinctly reaching into the overcast twilight.

Fantastic Lake Lucerne! I guess you must have taken quite some time to shoot all these pics?

Still following this awesome thread! Very nice reflections, personally thinks a square crop may be nicer?

Thanks for dropping in. There's really nothing much to do in the wild so that leaves plenty of time for shooting. On the contrary, I don't do much shooting in the cities as I prefer to spend more time immersing in the cities' culture.

Hi wonglp, thanks for still following the thread after so long. I can see where you're coming from for your square crop preference here, which I think is also another workable option. The rational for this composition at the time of shooting was to include part of the unlighted lake at the bottom to balance the dark clouds and also a stronger reference to the lake context.

Having done 5:4 for most takes in this trip, I may go square for my next long adventure. Surely this interesting aspect ratio will make a good composition exercise and hopefully will further develop my photography eye.

#140 Noorderlicht, Svalbard.
Noorderlicht is a dutch sailing ship that's been converted to a luxurious accommodation. She gets frozen in Tempelfjorden during winter and only set sail when the sea thaw during the summer time. Our convoy passed by on the last day of the expedition and the guide seen here having a quick chat with his friend, who was tending to his sledge dogs, while we stopped for a break.
