Did anyone encounter photos that are not properly focused in dim light conditions using 1000D and built-in flash?
I had this problem when taking photos for my friend's event.

Is this due to aperture? Handshake?

thank you.

i don't know whether other dslrs suffer from this thing, but i do get my 1000D difficulties to focus properly under poor light. If that happens, i will try to focus on something distinct(the subject must be near) and move the camera towards the subject and snap.

hope that helps.

bro, i used my filter on also ley. not much different actually.

Really ah...then i guess the distance of u and the light might be farway and lucky enuff not to catch the flare(pathetic ball) for my case..we experimenting with filter and without filter..i have the same pic with filter on,and will be able to see the flare. very disturbing, so then mahathir ask me to take off the filter..then no prob. But i recommend ...not to put on filter during night shoot..troublesome. :bsmilie:

Yo bro Chakka...
Me also experience the pathetic ball coming out on my pics during my 1st night shot with mahathir..then mahathir told me to take out the filter. den it looks better..
& what rockfreak saying is true about the aperture and the shutter speed..both do play as part.

below are the example..(i shot this without filter on)as u can see the lights at the corner are beautifully shape like a star.

I did take u advise, no filter for all the shots. Will try increase aperture ... infact I remember Roc saying this before the shoot, why did'nt I ???? must be that salt in my brain.

still got quite a number but dont think is better than this few :x

Not sure if it is intentional but I think in the first pic there is a little flare from the street lights on the left. It doesn't interfere in this shot but it might affect the composition in others. What lens and filter are you using??

The 3rd image is great but you might wanna run it through some post processing to straighten it out. cos it looks like everything is slightly tipping to the left.

Your shots are sharp dude! What lens are you using for those shots you posted?

#1: wow i like this shot .. what was the aperture setting on this shot? i suspect if you shot it with an even lower aperture .. you might get an even softer bokeh in the background.

#2: nice and sharp ... can almost see the points of the 'durian'

#3: i like the composition. well exposed. not sure if it will help but i wonder if pumping up the color saturation a little might help the color ful bits 'pop' out

Next time I must stick close to you and see what shots you have lined up man .. you got a good eye bro.

This I have yet to learn and work on.

thanks, appreciate the comments.

Wow.. Nice set on the whole bro.. Nice colours and composition.. Wish i was there..

My only comment would be that the horizon pic #6 above is kinda tilted, giving a weird feel.. Try rotating it about 2.3-2.5deg anti-clockwise and it'll definitely look better.. Unless that was your intention.. ;p

Agree with netjackalsg on the tilt in the last image.. Watch your horizon tilt.. And what aperture were you using? Were using tripod and mirror-lockup+timer? Cos i notice a hint of unsharpness which could be caused by shake/vibration..

Otherwise, a nice set..

Now that both of you mention it;

1) can I do the rotate on any software?

2) I always have this problem of alignment, on view finder it looks ok, check with live view oso ok, once downloaded arrgh ...... perhaps this comes with old age. Any suggestion how I can get over this?

Turn on grid overlay in Live View and align with horizon? Use Photoshop or GIMP (open source clone of Photoshop) to rotate.

Bro Cakka, my reply to u in Red below:

1) can I do the rotate on any software?

Yes, in Photoshop. If you don't have Photoshop, can consider Gimp (free open-source software).

The only reason i know of is, our LCD screen is small.. Therefore, whatever we see there can be deceiving in terms of orientation and sharpness.. It will always appear 'perfect' to a certain extent.. So what is on LCD is not necessarily what you get on your PC.. And the orientation problem is quite common, unless you use a spirit level on your camera.. So the solution is to rotate and crop on the computer..

cakka drink too much xDD
