Just bought the 1000D less than 1 month.
Happy clicking away. Haven't touch a DSLR since my Minolta days.
Happen to catch this special moment when my daughter had a fall.

hi guys, just attempted to take below sample pic for bokeh effect using 50mm F1.8 on the ametheyist stone. looks sharp with background OOF on the camera LCD screen, but when uploaded to computer, the stone looks a bit blur & very soft.

can advise from experts around here?

Camera Shake.
Use a camera stand combo with 2sec timer, or up the shuttle speed in manual mode.

How to post pics in this forum? I'm quite new here too.

You can upload to www.photobucket.com or www.flickr.com and link it here.

Nice but slightly blur for the robot..

Ya, after putting the Targus UV filter, i found the picture not as sharp.

Should i remove the filter?

Some recommend it for protection.

Your 1st point refers to "bokeh" effect....many threads on this topic in this forum ... just do a search. As for your 2nd question on night shoot....star effects from street lamps are usually the results of long exposures at high F's or some just simply from "star" filters....

Example of bokeh effect with my 1st night shot on 1000D with 50mm F1.8

Another bokeh shot taken on kit lens 18-55 using AV mode @ F3.5. Was shooting very close to the subject to get the bokeh BG

Does it comes with the 50mm F1.8 Lens as per last month promotion?

Is a cheapest lens to create the shallow DOF.

you can try it with the kit lens at the largest aperture, 3.5 using Av mode, this will make the depth of field thinner.

i am a 1000D user, what picture style best suits this camera?
For me, max constrast setting, +1/2 EV and -2 Tone produce better picture.

I also wish to find out about this too.. :)

I created a custom picture style using standard template. Then i set it to sharpness 5 cos i notice some photos are not sharp enough, contrast 1. I left the saturation alone, cos at 1, the colours look too overwhelming sometimes.

For me the sharpness in some photos has posed as an issue sometimes.

Any 1000D users like to share regarding picture styles?

My settings are sharpness 6, contrast 1, saturation 1, color tone 0. My contrast is always at 0 as some of my photos that are over exposed cannot be corrected.

Yup, true, too much contrast seems to cause over expose.
but my 1000D seems to get under-exposed pic, i set my Exposure to +1/3 always.
Flash comp to -2/3.

thanks for sharing ur experiences!

So far i havent had photos underexposed, the compensation level is always a variable for me. :):)

Are u guys going to get some fireworks photos tonight? haha

Yes please everyone share your profile style settings. I currently have these settings

Standard:
Sharpness +5
Contrast +1
Saturation +1
Tone -0

if anybody know any better settings plz share. I just got the 1000D/Rebel XS 2 days ago.

I also set all the picture styles's sharpness to 2 higher than what is it. Portrait's sharpness is at 4, landscape at 6 etc.

I also downloaded and installed CLEAR, SNAPSHOT, and AUTUMN HUE. Also set the sharpness on those to 2 higher.

I'll be visiting Queen Elizabeth Park and will be trying all the new settings and the new picture styles out. I'll post some pics too.

Hi GuardianFlash, we are using the same pictures style settings! where did u get these extra picture styles from?:sweatsm:
I was also wondering if any 1000D users enabled 'High ISO noise reduction' at the custom settings? Cos i did.:):)

most probably handshake. you can zoom it to check the quality of your pic in the 2.5" LCD (I think 10X) instead of waiting to transfer to your PC
