Hi Stevewhy

nice pics

wow Steve !! Great shots as usual from the simple setup! definitely better than any of my lousy Macro shots (still learning :)..)

btw, what is a BMO lens? care to share?

BMO lens = Build My Own Lens ?

Thank you Xeon11.

You got to keep trying, sure you can make it.
Yes BMO = Build My Own Lens. (Sorry did not define). ;)

Hi Steve,

Again, you're the man! The sharpness and details are amazing. Looking forward to learning more from you.

Thank you Bigu2fan.
We learn from one another k. ;)

wah lao...u still ask if ur shots pass or not....

if u ask me, i give u distinction liao la....

#3 is the most excellent here..

and yes, i am also dam dam dam interested in knowing wats a BMO lens??? the BMO certainly did some magic here!

another question: with the inbuilt flash, how come it has the "strength" to light up for macro shots?? isit because of f5.6 thats y it is strong enuff to shoot?

Thanks you Kcuf2.

Some may like it some may not, I cannot grade myself right!
BMO = Build My Own Lens (Sorry did not define). :embrass:
Actually the flash is too harsh for my liking, Yes partly because of f5.6 max, with 3” shooting distance you don’t need a big flash, that’s why all my setup I used on board flash, another slave flash is for fill in when required. ;)

STEVEEEEEEEE.....

Seeing your photographs......I DON THINK WILL INVEST IN ANY MACRO LENSES...never will !!!
To be frank, I dare not....later, buy liao, shoot, picture out, I cry......

your MARCO is Superb:thumbsup:

Thank you very much broccoli

Don’t buy Don’t want to cry. So how? (joking)
Wow! your bold very big and hot leh… Hahaha…. ;)

steve, i had nothing to say anymore... P&S shoot this kind of macro...i hv to go bang my head to the wall..... u r superb........   excellent macro from a P&S..i think no other ppl can do that except u...u really made my eyes open wide until my eye ball drop out...

by the way i got 1 question..i try to ued a milk container to do a diffuser..but the plastic is just too thin and when i dun on it..it seem does not hv any different..i see the meterial u used is quite thick..u just the plasctic or u got stick a piece of paper on the plastic?

Thank you Cherjier.

Don’t bang the wall and dropped your eye ball k, after blur blur cannot see how are you going to take nice pictures.
Ooops sorry! forgot to stated that I glue two pieces together. :embrass: ;)

WOw Steve !!! Ya done it again... Proving that its the man behind the viewfinder that counts.. I really admire ya shoots... I've got a few qn in mind, hope that you can help me solve some of them...

Q1. How do you ensure that ya pic is so sharp everytime?
Q2. How did u managed to get that blur background (bokeh)?
Q3. How does ya milk container works? It seems pretty thick and seems like the built-in flash will not be strong enuff to light up the subject and the background.

Pls pardon me for the newbie qn, :embrass: I really hope to learn from you... Tks you in advance !!

Thank you very much Straysheep.

Q1. How do you ensure that ya pic is so sharp everytime?
Know your equipment
Q2. How did u managed to get that blur background (bokeh)?
Lens to subject distance very close plus zoom in.
Q3. How does ya milk container works? It seems pretty thick and seems like the built-in flash will not be strong enuff to light up the subject and the background.
Ooops sorry! forgot to stated that I glue two pieces together, my working distance are around 3” to 4” and subject not more than 20mm, so you don’t need a powerful flash. ;)

stunning! put my dslr setup to shame....i should mount something similar to my f30....:bsmilie: thanks for sharing...

cheers...
happy new year!!

Hi Steve,

One thing I was wondering. Partly because you are using f3.5-f5.6, I see about 30% of the photo is sharply in focus and the rest is bokeh. What would you do if you need the WHOLE insect in focus. Can you do it at 3" distance or do you need to step back?

Very good question. Those shots was zoom in 2x for face shots,
for whole insect in focus, 3” distance remain just zoom out will do but the subject will be small.

I took a few insects at SBG recently but did not post. There were quite a lot of shadows even though I tried to take the critters from different angles. Are there any optimal angles to take them with on board flash and diffuser or do I need to take only in locations with sufficient sunlight?

Thanks in advance!

Yo! you master step 1 and 2 already, now you start step 4 where is step 3.
Yes there are optimal angles for flash Photography. ;)

This shots was taken in complete darkness.
Panasonic FZ30 with Leica close up filters and fill in flash.

I am always looking forward to see your posting.

Made me feel like throwing away my 105mm macro lens. Can buy 3 of the Fuji f450 with 1 105mm lens. Well i guess this is skill and understand of camera and lens that counts.

Great Shots:thumbsup:

Thank you Konken glad you liked it.

Don’t feel bad, work around it and you can make it. ;)
