This is a very unique angle, SK1968.We visited Potala Palace after lunch. Security is tight, liquid (not even drinking water) or any thing that may start a fire (lighter, matches, etc) are not allowed. Visitors are to subject their belongings to x-ray check and pass through metal detectors. Tour groups are also given a specific period of time to clear the palace. It is a pity no photography is allowed inside the palace as there is really a lot a lot of interesting and mysterious stuffs.

Very nice!
I said it and I say it again... this MUST be one of the very very rare infrared photo of the Potala!

Haha, this can be considered a snap shot. as i was standing there listening to the tour guide, got bored and snapped this after seeing many tourists posing with this scene as the backdrop. frankly, i don't think i was capable of taking any good angle of Potala Palace except for those from the back in part due to the presence of the pond and its reflection.

Am glad I didn't pass on this opportunity as I really took very little IR shots during this trip and this certainly doesn't qualify to be a good subject for IR. Nonetheless, just for a difference and now I think I can brag about it divinemoment

Agreed its angle is unique. Though its 1/640s, seems like a slow exposure with moving clouds. Nice drama.[/center]

It is precisely because you are there in May, that is why you have lush green grass and tree leaves in the foreground and background with the snowy peaks miles behind to give you magnificent shots like this!
Try going in December. And all you will see are dried, bald trunks and branches and stones and rocks... sky will be lovely blue but lacking in dramatic clouds...
Try going in September. And you will see many many flower blooms all over... sky will be misty and foggy with rain and lots of clouds...
So depends on what you want lor.
Next time we go up there and cheong again in another season. OK?
SK.. great pics.. and YET YOU SAID didn't have more to show for this trip@!!!! .... see quite a few pics with "feel" la... and the colourful IR is very poisonous la... SONY NEX3 convert next ah?hahaha, i thought the better time would be Aug

Tks but really felt that I failed miserably this time if not for a few cute children. Yup, it is the full spectrum NEX3...still experimenting with the colors actually
I can't go this Jul lei, going Ladakh already. After that, it would be only be possible next year....maybe Sapa, etc.

Haha, only a small walkman la....small and lightweight for being a tool for alternative photography.
Hmmm, what's there in Fujian. The rest of this year will only be weekend getaway for me at most.

After that, we drove over Flanagan La Pass (那根拉雪山, 5190m) reaching our destination of the day, Lake Namtso. At 4718m, it is the highest salt water lake in the world. Under ideal condition, one would be able to see the reflections of snow-capped mountain range on the lake but unfortunately we were too early. The snow and ice on the lake has not melted yet but then it presented us with another scene anyway.
This evening, we explored the edge of the lake and got a glimpse of the nice sunset.

#29 The enterprising Tibetan had their yaks (white ones) dolled up to let tourists ride on them for photos at RMB 10. The yaks are surprisingly tamed animals. Here you see that a small rock is all thats needed to make the yak stay put.
Nice captured. Maybe the nose is sensitive. If tie a string to our "bro" with one end to the stone, we also can't run away. ha ha ha.

I thought that Potala Palace was shot to death and yet you have come up with some interesting compositions :thumbsup:
Not a big fan of IR and don't even know how to shoot and process IR, so can't comment on the IR shot of the palace...
I am eagerly waiting for more landscapes
Its always wise to comment in hindsight... For #28, did you try a portrait composition (by placing the shoreline/horizon at the bottom third and shoving the rock/snow to a corner) ? I am a sucker for blue skies and the sky in #28 is simply too good to pass up :bsmilie:
