Could the "O" ring seal on the housing dried up? Cracked and eventually leaked. It would be important to keep the ring lubricated with silicon, just like the ones found on the dive tank. What do you reckon?

I use my 28-70 on my D2X and a 12-24 on a D70. Have used a 17-55 too. Love it. But really to each his own. No one can tell you what you need. I think the best test is to rent a 28-70 and 17-55 for travel on 2 separate bodies. Only then will you know what you really need and use most...
