ZM lenses ......

My guess is that they messed up the optimization with my lens. Anyway, focus shift and softness are 2 completely different things.

So is it just focus shift or softness?

Max, Im surprise you have this finding. I used your lens and it was really spot on unlike mine which front-focused as tested on the focus chart on the M9.

But I do realized at certain distance at f1.5, the focus shift is not so pronounced but if you need to test, it must be at 0.9m. Particularly interesting lens, at f1.5 this gem glows and retains a signature draw. outline is well defined, transition is buttery smooth. go up to f2.8, it is bitting sharp like a vintage summilux, further up from f5.6 onward, it renders all details with exceptional sharpness.

an interesting lens to get for your M collection. i dont use it often but I dont think i will sell it either.

I got my 50/2 zm from HK. Paid 640USD which is about 850SGD. 1 year international warranty too..

where to get zm lenses in hong kong? i am going there next week hope to pick up a good deal.

Out of curiosity, how does the Carl Zeiss 50mm/f2 Planar compare against the 50mm Summicron? Most reviews seem to say that they are both comparable, though I would like to hear some opinions at least before I go grab the lens when I drop by New York come January.

The ZM 50/2 supposedly gives a 3d render (on digital at least) and with that in mind, I went to Mr Wong and got myself a copy sometime ago. Its a nice lens but I don't have the cron 50 to compare, the devil in the left membrane convinced me to get a ver 4 cron 50 and that will arrive via UPS today i hope... i'll probably try a simple comparison on my GF1 when I get hold of the M-M43 adaptor.

Meanwhile, here's a 2 shots with ZM 50/2 / Bessa R3a / Provia 100F

Got my 50 cron 2 days ago... Bessa R3A / Cron 50 / Agfa Vistaplus 400

I'm sorry its not apple vs apple like comparison but hopefully, you get some idea...

A little OT...

Tom A just did a short test on a few 35mm... visit his flickr to check out the images...

If I were to hazard a guess, the Zeiss seems to have a slightly more modern look. Seems to have a 3D look in the Zeiss pictures (slightly better color contrast?)

But the difference is pretty minimal. I guess it's the issue of buying a used Leica 50mm Summicron or a Zeiss Planar, or hope that a Voigtlander 50mm/f1.5 turns up on the B&S again...

Just sharing my new 21mm setup for the holiday season (and my friend wedding shoot).

New buys:-

Tim Isaac Thumbs up CSEP1 for cold shoe (from chiif)
CV 21/25mm Chrome viewfinder (from chiif)
Zeiss 21mm Biogon F2.8 (from Zeiss)

sorry for being a pain, is Zeiss (m mount) still available for sale in singapore?

They tend not to offer the chrome ones though, and claim that there's no market for it. :(

You could try ordering it from B&H Photo. What with the USD being dirt cheap these days. Even with GST, I suspect it will be on par.

The good thing of buying locally is that you get to test out the lenses. 1 observation I have with the Zeiss Lenses is that some of them have stiffer focus ring, and I didn't quite like that. But I agree. The prices on the net is so enticing!

While that is true, I doubt you have much choice when it comes to trying lenses locally especially when their stock is likely pathetic if non-existent. :dunno:

:bsmilie: ... I guess I'll have is a game of tik kam then. :sweatsm:

OK, who's got a sonnar in chrome you want to sell?!

Trying to buy any ZM products in Singapore is a real challenge. Considering the premium that the distributor/retailers are charging over the other markets, you would have thought the product availablity will be better. It is no wonder that there are not many Zeiss ZM users around. I end up buying most of the ZM stuff from overseas. At least it is available. And as a bonus, it's cheaper too, even after shipping and GST.

Cheers,

If only Chiff can bring ZM lenses in...

It's kind of strange. While I see there seems to have ample stock of various ZM or the latest Z* SLR lenses on ebay or some US internet sellers, Mr Wong of Fotographfix told me Singapore kind of not in the priority list when ordering ZM stock. Also Singapore market for ZM not big enough so he cannot bring in too many stock to make the price very competitive. But I remember his first batch of ZMs the price was very attractive. Since then the local agent has raised the price.

Now thinking of trying the very hot ZM 25/2.8 hihihi

dun think, just get it.
one of the best i have had
