Zeiss ZM 35mm Biogon F2 vs Voigtlander Nokton Classic SC 35mm at F1.4

Got money buy Biogon. No money buy Skopar 2.5. Got luck and need speed but Ultron 1.7. No need speed but got money buy the Zeiss 2.5. Need speed regardless of IQ buy the 1.4. Need quality picture and speed but don't mind weight, 1.2. Want leica but for cheap, get the Summarit 2.5.

Sums up.

I want to start Yorickp fanclub.

If strike lottery, buy 35 lux FLE

I have own the Nokton Classic MC F1.4 for 2 weeks and I compare it against the leica 50mm Summicron, 35mm Summicron, 35mm Summilux and 50mm Summilux. Despite the cheap price for the Nokton, I find its F1.4 is not suitable for low light, indoor shooting unless you are working on centre sharp type of photo. The photo are de-focus object anything out of the 30% from the centre. I regret bring this only lens with my M9 on last year christmas shooting my family shots to find out that only the centre person face is sharp and the other person standing beside is all out of focus... On the other hand, on any occasion when I use the Cron and Lux, they are always sharp from edge to corner.

In conclusion, unless you are shooting artistic photo with the intention of defocus corner, don't use them for shot that you need centre to edge sharp and you have one chance to capture the scene at that moment of truth. In fact, I find my Leica X1 do a better job than a M9 with Nokton F1.4.

Nevertheless, I have sold the Nokton at a lost but no regret.

I think wide open at F1.4 is kinda hard to get all round sharpness? :dunno:

dats what i am wondering too. shooting at f1.4, even DSLR lenses wun give u all round sharpness.

Leica X1 is a point and shoot. And its widest aperture is only f2.8 of cos the sharpness will be better.

Should compare both shots at f2.8 to be fair to this lens man!

sharpness? to compare u need to compare a few different lens of the same focal length (35mm), shot at the same aperture (f stop), shutter speed and ISO as well as exact framing. Test shot must be done on a tripod to avoid handshake problems (this is user problem) that will make the photos unsharp.

if shots are done at different aperture, shutter speed, ISO, this is not a fair test anymore.

I suggest s1chen to go read up about aperture. Go imagine, one photo shot at f2.8 (Leica X1), while the other at f1.4 (using voigtlander 35mm). How can u expect this test to be fair?

from what i see here, its a user (s1chen) problem. not the lens.
