It's been out more for more than 6 months, announced as far back as 2 years ago.

Oh yes the range finder camera was in the market for quite a while already. Now they are launching the SW version for superwide angle lens without the range finder but with TTL metering and two hot shoes.

Sounds like a rebadged Cosina made Voightlander Bessa.

Much had been discuss about this new Zeiss Ikon rangefinder. Although there may be parts from Bessa that were used in this camera, this is definitely not a rebadge Bessa, rather a Cosina made body to Zeiss specification.

One obvious different is the range finder baseline, which is much longer than the Bessa and therefore the body is quite different from Bessa in order to accomodate this. The rewind crank has been located to the bottom of the camera. Metering shutter different from R2/R2A. Shuttle improved in reliability and noise.

People are buying the camera and kind of like it overseas but seems not so hot locally.

Actually it does feel like a Bessa when you hold it in your hands. Kinda light and of slightly better build quality than the recent Bessas. The real plus is its super bright viewfinder, which I'm sure will be replicated in the SW version. For the money, I still think a Bessa is a better buy, else plonk the moolah down for a Leica.

The thing is, the super bright finder was taken out in the SW version, this made it a very expensive Bessa L.

Guess it's relying on its pedigree status to sell then. Imo, both the ikon and this new body isn't worth the $$.
