My Zeiss Ikon recently arrived from Japan and I’m in love with it. The viewfinder is 1st class, mechanics are smooth and the body sleek and polished.

But it was frustrating trying to get it. Singapore is expensive (abt $2400), Hong Kong was hard to order or sometimes no stock, Ebay Matsuiyastore was better but didn’t carry the grip.

Finally, I found an old friend in Tokyo who bought a brand new set and sent it back to me in Singapore at a very reasonable price ( about $1830 all in after GST, shipping etc). Its cheaper than Matsuiyastore ( currently $1950 all-in ). Stock and colours are easily available. I chose silver. The Zeiss grip comes at an extra $120.

So I’m offering fellow rangefinder members, who also want a Zeiss Ikon, a new option to buy. You can order through me and Tokyo will ship to Singapore. It should take about 6 business days to arrive. For those after ZM lenses, please PM for prices. Let’s check with Tokyo and see what prices we can get.

The Zeiss Ikon carries a 1 year factory warranty by Zeiss AG together with a signed quality certificate before shipping out. ZM lenses carry 2 year factory warranty.

I’m glad I have a Tokyo friend who lets me indulge in all-things Zeiss:)

Congrats....Its a handsome camera...I have a silver one too...

Does this means that the Zeiss Ikon bought out of Singapore can be serviced at Shiro since it's a factory warranty?

Cheers,

I have asked Shriro about this issue...They vaguely mention they will service but there's a charge or something like this...

Canon said the same thing. After further clarification, what they meant was that the warranty is not honored, but they will service the product and charge accordingly. And accordingly was a lot!!! No choice, just pay.

So Zeiss factory warranty means no warranty in Singapore?

Anyway, even if no warranty, at least it can be serviced. Unlike the Fujifilm TX series.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Various point of purchases treat it differently. I understand Zeiss have different arrangment for camera and lens depending on whether repair facilities are available.

Matsuiyastore
They tell me their Ikons carry Japan warranty. Must send back to Matsuiya Japan. ZMs should be similar.

Hong Kong
No idea on Ikon. For lenses, Shiro gives 3yr local HK warranty (at extra charge) on top of 2yr Zeiss factory warranty. So I suspect they use Nikon equipment to repair simple ZM/ZF problems. For parts replacement, still send back to Japan.

Singapore.
Should be identical to HK. Ikons bot with Shiro warranty card inside are serviced free. Same for Nikons. Will they service Ikons bought elsewhere ? So far, they service Nikon bought from outside Sing at $130 per visit.

I guess it comes down to critical mass and can local distributors service. US, Europe have critical mass and local service turnaround is faster. Asia is a black hole cos no critical mass.

Thank goodness we're located close to Japan. Speedpost airparcel from Sing to Japan is only $35 (3-5biz days). Rangefinderforum members report happy results and fast turnaround when dealing with Zeiss Japan directly on Ikon and ZM issues.

To those who have pm me, let me get back to you on the prices.

here no more a shopping heaven . sad

Chances of a manual camera breaking down is so much lower then a digital...
The most send back to Ayuland for repair...Peace of mind too...

And both cam & lens are quality tested and certified before leaving factory. There are 2 certificates in every zeiss item. What's chances ?

Good price! You can become the "unofficial" dealer for Zeiss. :)

wow. thats a great price bro. can you PM me your contact?

cheers!

Zero chance for problems lor

Wow ! Thanks for all the suggestions. I always knew there was a Zeiss fan base :)

I thought it would help to post the FAQs here.

1) Where are the savings coming from ?
We’re buying directly from Japan. Its cheaper and we save on seller’s ebay listing fees, credit card & paypal fees. Also, savings from our own credit card currency rates( on average, 2% more than local money changer ). E.g I see USD now at 1.45 on my credit card bill. Ouch! :( ). A Biogon 2/35 costs USD 849 from ebay matsuiyastore or Sing dollar $1360 after GST, shipping, currency conversion). Compare this to below.

2) What other charges besides the price ?
None. Price already covers extra foam packing, shipping and GST. There's an initial order payment from you with balance upon collection. Arrive within 6-7days.

3) What other items are included ?
The items will come with original Japan store receipts. The Zeiss factory warranty is valid with this receipts. All box and papers as per original. With evey item, you will see a Signed Certificate of Acceptance ( item is certified individually by Zeiss QC before leaving the factory ), the Zeiss warranty card and the manual.

4) Can we order 2nd hand Zeiss items ?
I’m checking with Tokyo on this. So far, we’re restricting to 美 品 ( very mint, beautiful) items only. Frequently, there are even better savings on lower items cos Japan has 6 grades of 2nd hand classification. I'll post selective items on this thread from time to time. Keep a lookout!

5) Can we order other items ?
I'm a Zeiss fan. Only Zeisses. For Voigtlanders, please support our local friendly Voigt dealer.

5) Current prices of the new Zeiss items. ( For both silver and black )

How much would the ZI grip cost?

I am interested cos it can apparently fit the Minolta CLE :)

To fit the Minolta CLE, you would need to drill a hole in the grip cos it 80% covers the rewind release button. :)

It costs $138. Mine took 3 weeks to arrive cos Tokyo out of stock.

Will keep u posted on when's the next shipment of Zeiss coming into Sing. Can save some shipping fees for u.

Tokyo already processed 1st batch of Zeiss orders so I can't catch that shipment.

My 50mm combos
Nikon FM3A & ZF Macro 50mm f2, Leica R6.2 & Summicron 50mm f2 & Zeiss Ikon & Heliar 50mm f2

I didn't know I had a weakness for 50mm f2 until I took this shot.:)

Hi FortyNine, thought u mentioned that the grip cost $120 in ur first post? I understand that bottom covers alot of the rewind release, but I think its the onli one that fits well besides the original. Anyway, the CLE & the ZI shares alot of similarities in design abit the size ;)

ps: can u help me confirm the price? thx!

Thanks for pointing that out.:)

I ordered mine with the Ikon so it came together as a package at an extra cost of $120. Tokyo gets it cheaper with the camera. If you order it alone, its $138. This goes for the lens hoods too. Ordering together with the lens, they cost $90. Alone, they cost $108.

Please PM me. I will try to match your order to someone who wants the Ikon but not the grip so I can pass on the savings to you.
