I feel sad. It is an OEM product from Sigma.
Olympus claimed that 4/3 optics is specialized for digital, but it introduce quite a lot Sigma lenses copied from traditional optics.

There're two explanations:
1. Traditional lens is good enough for 4/3
2. Olympus downgrade its standard.

where did you get the info from???

hmmm
sad case...why dont have for 4/3 mount..!! sian...

so now eye on the 55-200mm sigma even cheaper at rm680

i rather u buy 40-150 f3.5-4.5...so many N & C user wow here n there that Oly has a f4.5 at 150mm (300mm @35mm) from kit len...

I support you on that - the older 40-150 f3.5-f4.5 is an awesome "standard grade" lens.

Keep a lookout on B&S, I think they go for around S$300~S$350 depending on the condition...

Second that, this is probably one of the best kit lens!

i third on that

But truthfully; this new 70-300mm will also be a worthy addition, just for the sake of the range that if gives.

Being realistic, for the zoom range and reach you're getting vs the price of the Lens; One must understand that there has to be some comprimise somewhere but being an OLY 4/3rds Lens, the performance and sharpness can't be that bad.

If you expect it to be pin sharp and have f4 at 300mm then you're talking about a pro-standard lens; then we'll all be bitching about the price and not the lens performance. :bsmilie:

So bottom line, I feel this is a fantastic addition to the standard line of OLY Lenses and will be great for those just starting out. So long as they realise the limitations of the Lens and how to make it work for them.

I second that opnion, there's a switch on the side of the lens though, any idea what's that?seems like an external AF MF switch

Hai Guy's,
In case you don't know that was a wrong perception. I have told fellow oly folks back at PHOTOMALAYSIA, That Oly ( JAPAN ), has put up a notice to let you know that The 70-300 zuiko is ( Not a Rebadge ) of the similar Sigma model. It's made in Japan by '' TATSUNO OPTICS ''.....That's the Oly factory in Japan making The HG,SHG Lenses. For more info go to the OLY Japan site.....And by the way '' It's Damn Cheap '', and for a 140-600mm Eqv Lens, What more can one ask????......Thanks.....James.

there are some 70-300mm pics posted by Edmund for his coverage of ClubSNAP @ Olympus E-3 Tokyo Launch. but those were not a good gauge to see if the lens is sharp.

What switch?

Regardless, I don't think it'll be a AF/MF switch, OLY Lenses use focus-by-wire remember?

It's probably a focus limiter.

Hai spidey,
You're right about the switch. There is a switch and it's for Macro,as the AF Won't go that far out. And it's in Manual focus when in Macro, Hence The Switch.....Thanks....James.

Hi... how much you pay for the len? thanks

Well I'll be... :bsmilie:

An AF/MF selector switch on an OLY Digital Lens; I wonder if it still focuses by wire...

So does this mean that poping it over to MF is a now a two-step affair?
1) Switch the Lens to MF
2) Switch the camera to MF

I know, was kinda surprise when i noticed that switch there as well, lol. No idea if popping over to MF is a two-step affair,i always have my focus in single auto and manual,so if that is true, just a flip of the switch, and i can focus manually, lol

I got mine for RM 1450 ( AROUND S$750 )......All in one Walkabout Lens and it's a good one. Still find it hard to post here, will post some at PHOTOMALAYSIA......Thanks....James.

i think the switch functions more as a focus limiter, rather than an af/mf switch though it does both. that is why you get a closer min focusing distance with mf.

and the reason for this limiter is to reduce hunting when doing non-closeup photography. i wish they had this on the 50 f2.

its out in malaysia???

Hai blurboiboi,
I got mine from Shashinki, as the local oly dist will only have stocks available at the middle of November......Thanks....James.
