I think is one of a side mirror of a car or something like that. The car is most probably under a shade or in a darker place but the reflected image is under bright sunlight. So if you just metered right at the brightly lit area & took a right exposure of the shot, most probably the darker area will be a lot more daker then it seems to be. Like the one that turns out black in some case.

PS: Am I talking another no brainer stuff again?
