Words of wisdom!

Say, just wondering, would you like to write for a magazine? ;)

yup, it's post minimalism! XD

Zaren already knew me. I always make such a big fuzz of usage of 'art genre' actually. I just feel that those art people ( be it artist, art critic, etc ) they go through a long way to introduce their style. I find it a bit unfair to just anyhow use.
It's not like doing lousy out of focus picture and call it abstract! Or accidentaly distorting the perspective and to called it Surrealism. I know most people here mature enough not to use art genre to cover up flaw however yes, i kinda nitpick on it =p

And zaren, I really enjoy your work! My favourite, still, is the human abstract picture.

Angel, i really enjoy your work and Stereobox's work as well.

Ah...the human abstract picture... think it might be fun to try that slow shutter backlit panning again sometime!

the thing is, nowadays, we as the viewer, tend to pigeonhole visual art-forms as 'this-n-that' based solely on visual appearance/stereotype.

like for example, as AZhou have stated above, "It's not like doing lousy out of focus picture and call it abstract!"

i believe studying the artistic intent on the part of the 'artist' is also important.

in zaren's case, i believe he's just saying he is applying the 'idealogy' or 'philosophy' behind minimalism art to his PAD project. no need to get so worked up AZhou :bsmilie:

but if u insist on classifying his work, yes, i believe the correct term to use is 'post minimalism', as they are a reaction to minimalism (thanks for teaching me about that, AZhou!) as usual, wikipedia puts it so eloquently "In visual art it refers specifically to artists who utilise minimalism either as an aesthetic or conceptual reference point from which to develop. The term does not refer to a particular movement but rather an artistic tendency"

It's a small hook on the wall/door or something alike which have coated of paint on
it through the years (I think).

hmm...but there's a hole at the back? or it's not a hole at all?!

yeah, i got it correct. Last time when I was still not into photography, I asked stereobox how to do it. He said it's a photoshop work but i insist it's a slow shutter speed.

Anyway glad you like our work as well.

I'm not getting work up at all, honey. I just stating what I wish to say. Perhaps it's just me.

My favourite line about description in wikipedia about post minimalism would be "This term does not refer to a particular movement but rather an artistic tendency." I treat art genre more to artistic tendency - something like attitute, identity of personality - rather than theoritical stuff you follow for the sake of 'being with theory' - be it as guideline or whatever.

Zaren > Sorry for OT =p

Zaren.... can you tell me what part of the human anatomy this is? i've searched all over but can't seem to find it. LOL =) or is it those screw in hook? good pic though:thumbsup:

thx for the comments everyone :)

spectrum got it right. it's actually a hook screwed into the wall. this was shot with a flashlight for lighting that made a circular light ring around the hook. by inverting the image, the "hole" appeared behind the hook. next i swapped the colours in PS and ended up with a skin-coloured hook and bg which seems to resemble some part of the anatomy. (e.g. an ear, or a bent finger). i called it photographic freakism because i wanted to explore how a juxtaposition of textures on everyday objects would make the viewer uneasy. something along the lines of the "fur-lined teacup". an artistic tendency towards surrealism i think? (need Azhou to confirm this).

alot of effort sia! where's today's pic ;)

thx guys :)
