Your thoughts on Voigtlander 17.5mm f0.95 Voigtlander

With my current lens the mf magnifying box would automatically pop up when i mf. Understand that the vc17.5 is working like an adapted lens how do I mf with it?

You can set fn 2 button customised for magnify, you need to press twice fn2. Remember set IS to nearest focal length

I was tempted to get it initially but then again, 0.95 wide open isn't all that easy to shoot with... of course, if you get the focus spot on, its going to be real real sweet but if that's just a meagre 10% of all your wide open shots, then my point exactly - to die for or to cry for???

have anyone considered getting the m mount voigtlanders with convertors for m43, since the 17.5 will also work like an adapted lens?

Yes I've tried a few M-Voigtlanders adapted to M43, They work great in general, but my Only problem is because of the inherent nature of Rangefinder systems, all the lenses do not focus less than 0.7 M, and so far only the 25 and 17.5 can focus super close like 30 cm... very useful especially for the wider 17.5, because you can get good bokeh effect if you are quite close to your subject.

Yes and No... when we talk about rangefinder lenses, there's the m lenses and the older ltm lenses. The nearest focus distance of most M lenses is usually between 0.65m to 1m but when you look at some of the ltm lenses, like the nikkor sc 5cm f1.4 or Tanaka 5cm f2.0, the nearest distance marking is actually < 1.5 ft. Of course, the near focus of these lenses are not rangefinder coupled but that is besides the point!

What pains me most using m lenses on M43, is the 2x crop!

Hmm come to think of it, yeah one of the lenses I used was Nokton 35 1.2 Version2, which focuses to 0.6m. But I found the experience is completely different when using them with Rangefinder and with M43, even with the focus Assist (basically zoom in the Live View), it's somehow still harder to get the focus right, where with Rangefinder somehow even I feel I agak2 miss, the result still come out quite spot on, not sure why...

Actually with RF its a bit more tricky, some lenses front / back focuses while others have focus shift... shooting with live view however, eliminates all such issues! WYSIWYG!

Aite guys, I think I should do an update on this.

I went ahead and bought a Fuji X100 Black LE for 1599. And have no regrets whatsoever. If looks sexy, the files it churns out are actually really really nice, and sometimes prefer it to the Oly files, which are really sharp and technical, but lacks that tinge of romance in the Fuji files. And the OVF and EVF is awesome, and compared to the last time I held the X100 a while back, the camera feels totally fast now, and responsive, the ability to map the RAW button, the faster AF, etc. Write times are slower than the OM-D, but honestly, the IQ still blows me away sometimes.

And the macro focusing in the X100 is vastly improved, and I think that it might actually focus closer than the Voigtlander and when stopped down, the shot becomes really sharp. Macro at f2.0 really is soft tbh. And of course the benefits of having 2 bodies are nice (3 if you count the neglected D700, 4 if you count the M6).

Next on my list will probably be a M to M4/3 adapter to try out the Summicron, and the upcoming 60mm Macro Oly.

Thanks for the update. I personally thought that the fuji colours are not bad and i had the x10 which i liked the handling and the images it produced. It is quite good especially in low light and high contrast situations. But one of my girl frens compared the images with those from epl1 and straightaway declared that she much preferred the oly colours. I deferred to her opinion and since then, the x10 has remained in my dry cabinet.
