Greetings All.
Here are my early days impression of the K-7. It looks, feels and is smaller than the K10D. I was a bit flustered by its "small" size when I took it out of the box, but after 2 days, I am loving it. The buttons are closer together but no issue. The new layout is great. I didn't get to play with it till today but the buttons, function etc etc are all like old friends now.
Like many has mentioned, the shutter sound is great and so is the shutter's super quick response. The K10D is just so slow in comparison.
The LCD display is wow. You know how many times a camera is sold based on what the potential customers sees on screen. Pentax/Emjay just have to ensure that retailers do present the K-7 as an alternative to the customer, and it will have a great chance of being bought.
I don't like the rubber doors for the PC/AV connections. And it is diificult getting the SD card out. I have tried 4 different cards. All have this problem.
Body a touch short for my hand, so will need to get a battery grip. But I have always used battery grips, so I guess I am a little biased
First impression of LV & Movie mode not too good. Will need to try out more over the weekend.
So what about the picture quality? From limited shooting, I have to say I am very very pleased so far.
Here is why. Two sets of photos. One taken with K10D, the other K-7. Use same DA*16-50mm. Focal length - 50mm. Both aperture priority at F5.6, ISO100, Multi segment metering. No EV compensation. RAW format. Hand held. The main object from cam - 25-30metres. Pictures only resized, No sharpening or any levels correction at all. Pretty straight out of the cams.
Note the much more accurate exposure on the K-7. The K10D is underexposing as it usually does. The K-7 consistently showed 1/100 sec shutter speed while the K10D indicated 1/125 or faster.
All my pics from the DA*16-50 has been mediocre at best and I thought "What an over rated lens"! But not anymore. Looks like it just ain't happy with the K10D.
BTW, the K10D pic is the best out of 25 I took. There were some which were alot worse. I took only 7 pics with the K-7 and there were all of similar IQ. The K-7 is consistent!
So girls and guys. If you are thinking of upgrading to the K-7(esp from K10), don't think. Just do it. Cheers.
Oh! Nearly forgot about that levelling indicator. What a cool and useful feature.
