Your Favourite Canon PRIME

Alamak! How can we compare to 35L to 135L! They are 100mm of difference!

Just buy the one you need! :)
I don't think it is a comparison but rather a difficult choice on which one to go for first given that you only have enough money to buy just one lens...

So i'm prob looking more into street photog kinda stuff & portraiture.
I was thinking a 135L. What say you? :)

IMHO, EF 135 f2.0L is literally BEST suited for portraits for Full Frame - HEAD and SHOULDERS or literally the abdomen top :D :D

Since you already have BOTH the 17-40 and 24-70L's, why not get both of them into good use instead? (17-40 as the ultrawide angle lens and 24-70 as the regular/portrait zoom lens)

POST-SCRIPT: Another Ultrawide lens for Full Frame that you can watch out for would be Tokina ATX 168 (16-28mm f2.8) which I think MIGHT be a way cheaper alternative to the already formidable Canon EF 16-35 f2.8L :D :D

My favour is 100mm f/2.8 Macro. :) I reckon the L-version is even better as it has IS (or HIS).

Yes! this is a really "Fun" lens to have. The HIS version is the one to go for. No regrets.

For me, as I have the 100mm marco F2.8 non-HIS, I think there's no point for me to get the IS version as both are almost equal in image quality.....

What about EF 100mm f2 USM on a FF, anybody second that? :)

I like the 24mm f/3.5 TS-E lens best for landscape, architecture and wide angle composition best.

85 1.8 is 1 of my fave prime, but too bad at that time no money buy 85 1.2... if not that will be my fave prime ;p

and 50 1.8 gets my vote for the most cost effective canon lens ;)

35 f1.4L, simply awesome! I realized over time I had it on my camera more and more till one day I realized I had covered over 20 events with it!

EF 50mm f1.8 II. This is my fav coz this is the only one i can afford. Arguably the most bang for your buck.

Nice answer :bsmilie:.

I for one don't have many lenses, and all are favorites of mine, each for a particular usage. For my typical use, the 135mm f/2 gets the most, and YMMV of course, we all have different shooting preferences. High quality, very fast for sports/action, size and weight ok but could be better ... only thing missing is IS, which although not essential is very welcome to me as it expands the shooting possibilities.

Still can get away with it for streets, like this one:

But obviously it is very limited because streets are usually crowded with lots of people moving around to block the view. So I'd rather use 50mm and get up close, without intruding.

I prefer the Cartier Bresson type of shooting for streets - i.e. discreet. Otherwise, intruding too much can get this :embrass: : (one of my mistakes, thinking about composition and forgot I was too close)

Excellent shots.. even though not descreet enough :)

:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

I have a 100 Macro and I LOVE it. Using it on a 1.6x body tho. Excellent IQ, super sharp, fast AF. Good for indoor and low-light shooting and event coverage, tho it really depends on your style of photography.

Plus, you get the versatility of a 1:1 macro lens too!

i love all my primes... 35 F2, 50 F1.2L, 50 F1.8, 85 F1.8, 100 F2.8 (non L and L)....

I really really really wanna get a 135L tho... Borrowed my friend's and now I'm hooked >.<

135L on 350D? Isn't that like really tight? It could be challenging, especially under dim lighting condition.

I'm shooting on crop body too, and my favorite is my 85mm f1.8. It's like having a 135mm on FF :bsmilie: That lens is extremely sharp. Well, my other primes are 50mm f1.8 and EF-S 60mm f2.8 macro, so I can't really comment on other primes

From your signature, noticed you already have 17-40 & 24-70 covering street photog & portraiture. It will be good to have 135mm to cover the longer range although 135mm on a FF is not that long.

If you are really interested in getting more out of street photog & portraiture, perhaps you should consider 35L & 85L instead?

CS TAN, i note that you do have alot of L lenses in your collection... i seriously envy you leh...

1 zoom and 3 primes are not a lot but for me it is enough. The zoom is for travel light such as overseas vacationing. As for the primes, the most used one is the 35L, and then 85L. The least used is the 135L. Perhaps I shoot a lot indoors so I found 135mm too tight.

For the rare occasions that I need a focal length longer than 135mm, I have my 1.4 teleconverter with me. 135L+1.4x teleconverter, at f2.8, pretty much covers all the focal lengths I need...
