Rodgers: LFC can win on goal difference:thumbsup:

Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool have the attacking threat to overturn Manchester City's goal difference advantage in the final week of the Premier League title race.

Both teams have 80 points with two matches to play, and both have scored 96 league goals to date.

But City have conceded nine fewer than the Reds, and so top the table with a superior goal difference.

If Manuel Pellegrini's side win their final two league matches, at home to Aston Villa on Wednesday and West Ham on Sunday, few would give Liverpool a chance of overhauling that goal difference deficit.

Yet Rodgers, whose side visit Crystal Palace on Monday before finishing the season at home to Newcastle on Sunday, thinks it can be done.

He told British national newspapers: "If there is any team that can score goals and turn it around, it will be us.

"That will be our aim. We aim to score goals and be defensively strong."

Liverpool did beat Palace 9-0 in a First Division match in September 1989 -- and while Rodgers is not claiming his side will repeat that feat, he did point to the example of Chelsea winning by a big score when under pressure to claim the title in 2010.

He said: "I have seen it before. Chelsea beat Wigan 8-0 in the last game of the season.

"I am not paying any disrespect to Newcastle at all -- but what we are saying is if there is a team that has shown it can score goals, it is us.

"We are not a 1-0 team. That is what gives us the chance. It's the team that scores the goals that will win.

"Manchester City won the league on goals scored a couple of years ago. That's why, when I came in here, I spoke about a team that could score goals because ultimately that is what it could come down to.

"We scored 47 goals in the first year I was here and now we have 96. That is what gives us the chance. We could sit and get the team to defend and not want to score but ultimately it's the team that scores the goals that will win."

City secured their third successive league win as they triumphed 3-2 at Everton on Saturday, but Rodgers thinks they may yet slip up.

He added: "City's result won't deflate us because we know we have to win against Palace no matter what. We know we have to win at Palace and win against Newcastle. That hasn't changed and that is our focus.

"Manchester City need to win all their games. They will have won five games in a row and have only done that once this season, so it will be a wee bit new for them as well. It is not over by a long way.

"I just believe that if we can win our two games, then it will go a long way to deciding whether we finish at the top.

"But the first thing is concentrating on our game, which we have done all season, and that is Crystal Palace."

Mignolet, Johnson, Flanagan, Skrtel, Sakho, Gerrard, Allen, Lucas, Sterling, Sturridge, Suarez

COME ON, LIVERPOOL!! SCORE 8 GOALS IN THE 2ND HALF!! MANY HERE WAGER A FORTUNE ON AOS!!! :bsmilie:

HT 1-0 Allen header from Gerrard's corner. Looks like they are not going for many goals as they were playing the patient game and recycling the ball. Had 3-4 good chances but the finishing is poor. Mignolet made 2 top class saves too.

Many lessons learnt this season.

Unbelievable !!! Win 3-0 up and look what happen !!! We really let it slip BIG TIME very disappointed and Suarez is crying with pain too.

We need to learn how to win and get points, not just to score goals. got tons of things to learn from past 2 games. Very sad.

It's one single mistake that leads to the collapse in our race. Che$ea game was a game we only need a point and we will get the last 6 points to achieve our dream. We slip there and when 3-0 up we still have to chase the game to close the goal difference resulting in only 2 defender left at the half way line. If we draw Che$ea we would have close up shop at 2-0 and frankly CP wasn't play great to ne a threat until we let them in. Our player also look tired at the end season and it's a case of trying to hard because of the situation we let ourself into... Sad sad day and a big big let down in this season.

For the love of football, it was a beautiful game... not what we wanted but it is what it is. YNWA
