Mourinho: Suarez not worthy :bsmilie::bsmilie:

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes Edin Dzeko, and not Luis Suarez, should have been the Premier League's player of the season.

Mourinho has been a regular critic of the Liverpool striker, who won the PFA and Football Writers' Association awards, dubbing him as the king of penalties and describing him as an "acrobatic swimming pool" diver.

And now he has stated his belief the player of the year should be either his Anfield team-mate Steven Gerrard or Manchester City striker Dzeko, who has scored some vital goals in his side's end-of-season run.

They will secure the title on Sunday with a point against West Ham and Mourinho feels the individual award winner should come from the champions.

Mourinho said: "Luis Suarez is a very good player. They're not voting for a player who has no quality.

"(But) the profile of player who wins the player of the year is not the profile of player who used to win in English football 10, eight, six years ago.

"He bit (Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic) not this season but the previous season. This is a different season. I'm not speaking about one mistake that a man can have. You don't have to be punished for the rest of your life if you make a mistake on the football pitch.

"(But) my player of the year would be always from the champions, in every condition.

"If the champion is Man City - they need a point - I would say a Man City player and if I have to choose one, I would choose Dzeko."

"The kind of player he is, he's not just a goalscorer. He assists, he plays, he behaves, he's fair, doesn't dive, doesn't try to put opponents in the stands with accumulation of cards.

"He was the third (choice) striker at the beginning of the season. He was hidden behind his manager's first choices and when the team needed him in crucial moments of the season, I think he made the difference.

"In this moment I think he has 16 goals. Sixteen goals for the third striker is something spectacular."

Mourinho's praise for Gerrard even included thinly veiled criticism of Suarez.

He added: "Tremendous cold blood as a penalty taker. He had lots of them but with every penalty he was there for the team too and some of them were crucial."

Adam Lallana begs Southampton to let him join Liverpool

Adam Lallana is pleading with Southampton to let him join Liverpool this summer before this summer’s World Cup.

The attacking midfielder, who is celebrating his 26th birthday today, looks certain to say his farewells to the St Mary’s faithful at tomorrow’s final game of the season with Manchester United.

Lallana reportedly met Saints executive director Les Reed last night in an attempt to force through a move.

Liverpool have already made Lallana the subject of a £20million bid but Brendan Rodgers’ men could be dragged into a bidding war with United also planning to flex their muscles.

However, Anfield appears to be his preferred destination and Lallana is keen to force the issue and get his future sorted so that he can concentrate on the World Cup.

He hopes that, after 14 years service with the club, Saints will not stand in his way. Should he get his dream move this summer, it would provide a windfall for Championship side Bournemouth. The Cherries stand to receive a 25 per cent sell-on clause imposed by an FA tribunal after Saints poached Lallana from them when he was aged just 12.

So far they have received just £18,000 in compensation for a player who has scored 60 times in 241 appearances for Southampton, although he did make four appearances on loan for the Dean Court outfit in 2007.

Wow !!! SWEE !!!! YNWA !!!

Brendan Rodgers has ringed the changes following Monday’s disastrous 3-3 draw Crystal Palace. Jordan Henderson, missed so sorely since his sending off against Manchester City last month, replaces Lucas Leiva, who has struggled in a more attacking midfield role.

Mamadou Sakho’s performance against Palace clearly didn’t impress Rodgers either, with the Frenchman making way for Daniel Agger, in what could potentially be the 29-year-old’s final appearance in a Liverpool shirt after eight years at the club.

Philippe Coutinho remains on the bench also, with Joe Allen’s good recent form seeing him retain his place in the side.

The Reds have to beat Newcastle and hope that West Ham defeat Manchester City at the Etihad. The odds are stacked against Rodgers and his men, but stranger things have happened in football.

Fingers crossed that in a few hours time we could be celebrating arguably the greatest day in Liverpool’s illustrious history.

Liverpool: Mignolet, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Flanagan, Gerrard (c), Allen, Henderson, Sterling, Sturridge, Suarez.

Substitutes: Jones, Toure, Sakho, Cissokho, Lucas, Coutinho, Aspas

Newcastle: Krul, S. Taylor, Williamson, Coloccini, Haidara, Debuchy, Anita, Tiote, Gouffran, Sissoko, Ameobi

Substitutes: Elliot, Santon, Yanga-Mbiwa, Satka, Dummett, Sammy Ameobi, De Jong.
