After a while, it seems like every question asked about PP for IR and the answers given looks the same...

I did to thorough read of almost all the threads on PP questions and found that other than the basic Channel Swop, not much else is explained...

I have gone from shooting with PNS (F717, F828) to unmodded DSLR (A100 with 5 sec exp) to a modded PNS (Fuji S9100) to now a modded DSLR (A100 with ELP)... With every change in camera type, I started with high expectations but ended often with frustration.

Perhaps I am too much a newbie with photoshop...

Is there any bros out there who is willing to sit down with me and show me how you guys achieve the stunning results you get in your PP? I wish I can go a step further with IR... :(

There are few "rules" for processing IR photos. For me, each picture is a chance to see what I can get out of it. I just try different things to see what happens. This is also a good way to learn Photoshop. Pick something and see what happens. In photoshop, there are a few tools which effect color. You have found the Channel Mixer. Once you do the basic blue/ red swap try moving around all the other sliders in all of the channels and see what happens and what you like. Then you can go into Hue/ Saturation and try each one of those. I usually use "Selective Color" for further adjustments. Play around. If there is some specific look you are after, give us an example and maybe someone can try to tell you how they achieve it.

I love IR because it's so UNPREDICATABLE. You have to try and try and try. Each trial has to start with new idea, new perception, new expectation. There's no exact rules or formulas regarding IR PP.

That's because we can see no IR, right? ;p

NO one knows what's the final picture'd be. Even if you go shooting with your friend, from the same spot, with the same camera model, modification, and setting ... you'll NEVER get the same picture.

IR component in visible light changes in the way we can not see. No one (unless you are insect ;) ).

That's fun, right?

The Channel Swap, False color generation, Hue/Saturation, etc, etc ... are just the gateway to unknown and unperceptable photographic territory.
So .. in this IR Land, NO one can do thing wrongly.
What's a photographer's dream!

Let's have fun with IR ..
