I'll buy coffee if you help me make my cam work. ;) How about meeting at the city area? I'd love to shoot after as well. That is, if the battery is the only problem. :)

Ah, I have an idea. Maybe we can have a meetup for Yashica GSN users and have a shoot. What do you think? :)

hahaaa...
seriously, you just need to buy those battery, use paper a bit...
and its work....
if you want you can contact me... ill be in city area today 96868558

if you live near the west side, say bukit batok, we could meet up for a small chat while i help you with the battery! :)

sure thing.. i've got 2 extra LR 44 which i bought.. u jus need a cr123 :) let me know how i can help u..maybe we can all meet up :P

Got my Yashica working. Thanks a lot guys! :) Now I just have to shoot some test rolls and see if it is really working. :)

I tried the CR123 + 2X LR44, but the indicator keeps showing OVER, even though i point it at dark area and aperture at 16!!! and the shutter is always very fast. anyone any clue? does this mean i have to send it to recalibrate it's meter?

use a 4LR44 and a bit of spring. the 6v should work fine for the electro 35 series.

one of my favorite range finders. use one every now and then. sharp pictures, fast lens, very simple to use. GSN/GTN same camera except GSN is silver, GTN is black. GS/GT same thing except no hot shoe.

Does it flash for a fraction of a second or stay on at OVER? My meter does flash for a tad bit as I depress, but holds steady at a fixed reading when at the half-depressed point.

I use a 4LR44 for one of my GSNs and an original cell for the other. Same thing happens on both.

The voltage of the CR123 and 2 LR44s should be fine, so if the case above isn't the case, I think you might have an issue.

For the battery ad-hoc solutions, as long as the voltage is 6V (or 5.7V if you can get it) then it should work without calibration.

Just got a GTN with mouldy lens & viewfinder from a fellow CSer, but otherwise the camera is working fine. I'm using the CR123a + 2 LR44 combo, and all the indicators (battery check, over/under expose lights) light up accordingly. Brought the camera to Camera Hospital this afternoon and was quoted $80 for cleaning of the lens, viewfinder & replacing of the foam seal.

Ok, the thing is, Steven from Camera Hospital commented that the above batteries combination will cause the shutter to fire slower than it should as the voltage is incorrect? And the exposure will be 1-2 stops under? To modify the battery compartment will be an additional $50.

Those who have tried the CR123a + 2 LR44 combination, how did your shots turned out?

eh, i'm not sure about the CR123A combi, but i'm using 4 x LR44 button cells plus 1 cent coins to fill the slack and it all works fine. metering is perfect.

Since 1 cent coins are no longer in circulation, u can try 5 cents coins or even Aluminium foils from the kitchen

I have tried CR123 + 2 LR44 and shots are good to me. You can try that first. If not, then you might want to consider this: http://www.yashica-guy.com/document/battery.html

Wah, din know that there are so many Yashica RF chaps around. I got one and it is still virgin, lying in my dry-cab. Still haven't tried to bring it out to test n shoot. Anyhow, looks good and feel good to me.

Maybe, I am too much into digital liao. :)

The lens, the viewfinder looks rather fungus-infested leh.

The 4LR44 or PX28 is the best replacement battery for the GSN. If you put the battery in and get a over or under light always. Then you will most likely have to replace the pad of death.
The 4LR44 or other combos that put out 6V will not cause the meter to be off.
Just wrap some cardborad around the battery and put a roll of tinfoil on top. As long as the cap and internal spring are clean it should work.
Electros are known for having the battery wire corrode off at the top of the battery compartment.

BTW. I've done hundreds. There is no reason to mod battery compartments. And there is no way to tweak the meters. ;)
