Hi i'm totally new to the medium format world.

Just received my yashica D today. Man the camera looks like it's just out from the box O_O

The problem is that.... everything is working fine, except the shutter blades. Try to **** the shutter then press the shoot button, the blades moved just a tiny bit.
I see some of the oil inside the blades. Any1 knows how to solve this?

isit due to oily blades? i had this problem with my Canon RF last time, shutter button cant really go down when press and blades moved abit, was told due to oily blades. Need to send for cleaning. I might be wrong...

IS it a Sticky shutter...its really common for the camera...did u try faster speed like say 500 sec?

The shutter does not moved at all. I think it is probably the shutter jammed problem. Maybe someone played with the self-timer before and did it wrongly.
Any place in Singapore that I can get my camera CLA'd?

Get a quote first. Don be surprised the price of fixing can get another new one....

You sound like you run free advertisement. Please be objective. Yashica d good for ten years? Don make such claims. I'm sure tay himself won't say that.

small problem. Generally 2 scenarios.

1) shutter is sticky/oily - general cleaning of the shutter mechanism will do
2) shutter sticky plus spring has lost its strength over time - cleaning plus changing of parts

either way, its an easy fix. go get it done and enjoy your MF photography!

Haha my yashica d sticky at 1/8 below..nvr really bother to fix it..
Now can lua lua fix it? :)

Lua lua has a dozen of Rolleicord and some Yashica TLR.
He has done it before.
I have a dozen of Yashica D 635 mat, and some Rollicord.
I usually have to send it for service after 1-2 years .

Yashica TLR usually have shuttle problems and fungus behind the viewing lens.
Service is usually about $100. Not very complicated procedure, depending on state.

As a photographer, even using print film, should expect the cam to have basic functionality.
But not spend a fortune to fix a device that was built for mass market and have limited lifetime.
Camera hospital can fix it for that price and fast turn around.
Or spend a fortune and wait for months to get the same thing done.
If you really want the ultimate for Yashica TLR, can send to Mark Hama in USA to restore it to factory spec.
He can even replace the whole shuttle for you.

You can also look for Nick at CamX, reasonable cost, technician is the same as P&G Camera.

I sent a few items (Leica M, LF lenses) to him for CLA and been happy so far.

I sent mine to prime camera. A v nice guy.

TLRs are generally easy to use, and rewarding too. whatsmore, they are inexpensive. you should try one sometime and get a feel of it. try a proper one if you wanna learn, not blackbirdfly or recesky stuffs. not saying they are bad, just limited.
