Have been evaluating a test set from Canon. Any brother and sisters here had any experience with this camera?
This is a 3CCD HD Digital Video camera. It accepts up to two 3 pin external mic input. Has a hot shoe, and dual zoom and record button. One on the right back of the camera and another on the top handle(Allows you to still operate the camera while you hold on to the handle).

I am considering getting this camera, are there any other similar camera worth considering?

Here are some photos of the beast or beauty!

Have you consider the A1?

I'm using the A1. Basically the same camera, but without the SDI output.

It has some good features and some not so good, like most cameras. Is capable of a very nice image, and has loads of adjustments for changing the highs and lows to get a good exposure in a wide range of lighting conditions.

On the not so positive side:

Focus can be quite fiddly because the focus ring is very sensitive especially on the wide end. (0.1m to infinity is a turn of around 1/4 inch).

You cannot set it to feed the external mic into both inputs and set separate gains to give you a backup if you overcook one audio channel.

You can switch between preset zoom level or focus but not both because the lens has only one motor to drive zoom and focus. This also means that if you change focus while zooming (i.e. if you have autofocus set) the zoom will be a bit jerky which is pretty useless.

Overall, it's a very nice camera, because the plus points are too many to mention and the minus's are just a few. It's down to personal preference as usual, but if you can live with these it's a good buy.

Thanks for the input. I am still very inexperience in this video arena. Are there other stuff to consider when choosing such a camera? How is this compared to the sony FX7?

Does the FX7 have dual external mic input? What is the quality like, comparing the florite lens vs the CZ lens?

i think you might want to consider Canon A1 or Sony V1
as their price is about the same...

There are many things to consider, but really, at this level most of it comes down to personal preference. You certainly won't find a perfect camera. :(

FX7 is more consumer camera, I think if you want XLR mic inputs you should look at the Sony V1.

For me, it is a backwards move on Sony's part to put 1/4" sensors on this type of video camera. We are already facing problems with poor light sensitivity and too much depth of field with 1/3" sensors. This just makes things a bit worse. (And yes I've seen their diagonal cell arrangement but it looks like nothing more than a marketing ploy to me.)

which one of these can use L lens ?

read some brochure that it can use L lens

Only the XL2 can switch between the EF L lens. The XH series has fixed L lens. Okay I will go take a look at the Sony V1 to see if the features suits my need more. And yes the XLR Mic input is important to me.

hi just to share some info on the A1. just finish a documentary using A1. the picture quality is superb.best shoot with good lighting because only with good lighting the rich color will pop .the low light capablity is bad.handling wise abit weird because i'm used to handle xl and the zooming button abit cramp when trying to zoom in and focus at the same time.another bad point is that if you are using fcp for editing and did'nt upgrade to version 5.1.4 sorry to say the software will not detach the camera.and after you manage to edit and want to dump it to the camera you simply can't because you need to wait for fcp version 6 hahaha...overall 2 thumb up for the camera because it really a pro camera.

enjoy making movie

Does Final Cut Pro runs on Windows? Cos I am using windows.

No, but you can run windows on a Mac.. ;)

A picture says a thousand words, here are some grab of my friend's XHA1 footage in US.

What monster is that? Looks like an alien from mars:bigeyes:

Are there any shoulder attachment for this camera? I think it will be more stable to rest the camera on the shoulder.

Wow... very cinematic feel from the Canon! Nice!

That is a spider shoulder mounted under A1 with a SGpro or Red rock 35mm miniadapter. The picture is taken by A1 with a 35mm lense attached to it, not a true representation of A1.

There's another drawback of A1 is its noisy gain. Canon A1 is set at default to +3db even if no gain is enable, thus you get brighter picture but noisier.
