XF14mm F2.8

the two firmwares comes with thr xf14mm lens in a sd card. i have the sd card myself but since these firmware are already shared by other xf14mm user, i am just pointing you guys to the source.

firmware not available in fuji website yet.

Those firmware on DChome are to allow X-Pro1 and X-E1 to recognize the XF14. The XF14 does not AF on older firmware.

I upgraded mine when I bought my XF14, no perceived performance improvement on my x-pro1, or my XF18/35.

Well, Chris Weeks (APhotoContributor: Digital Kool-Aid.) thinks the 18mm is great looking at pictures, those who measure it with tools find it wanting.

It really doesn't matter to someone who knows how to take a picture :), what matters is the picture. To quote Weeks - "Funny thing is I know more kids with Canon digital Rebels doing better work than 99% of the guys wearing a Leica." The f2 speed of the 18mm I think makes it more of a dilemma to choose betweeen 18mm and 14mm, at least for street use where border sharpness I find is not as relevant than in landscape.

Then again, there is the GAS ... I think this 14mm is not just decent , it's great, and with low distortion. That's looking at pictures and not measurements of course.

Thanks for sharing...very nice write up in the blog.

I just gotten my first AF lens from hkg...bought the 18mm over the 14mm since im using it mostly for streets shots, compact is the way to go...the f2 helps actually, althought just 1 stop over the f2.8. Price wise, its almost half the price of the 14mm which falls within my budget.

I was shooting with a friends CV 12mm lens and i found that its slightly too wide for street..the distortion that came along w wide angle lens is normal in a way but yet irks me a fair bit....my consideration for the 14mm was if i really need that wide for landscape...and seems like 18mm would do fine for me now, probably save me some effort to shoot at 14mm and crop some areas away....so probably i will just stick to the 18mm for good....

Great choice, I also have the XF18 as my walkaround lens... 28mm is a comfortable range for street shooting; not too straight-in-your-face, not too distant.

I used the CV12 for only 1 overseas trip and sold it after I came back, the IQ is quite bad when compared to XF18 and the distortion makes me feel dizzy when I pan around during composition.

i do feel the camera does not hunt as often esp the xf60mm lens after the upgrade.

Maybe, I don't have the XF60 so cannot confirm... but my 18 and 35 still acts the same. :bsmilie:

Well, one f-stop can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars more :), and in this case, the faster one is cheaper.

The 14mm is fine for streets, but personally I prefer the focal length of 28mm, with 50mm to 90mm in full frame as my favorites. So in APSC, the Fuji 18mm and 35mm would be good. At least you know what you want. I'll use the 14mm mostly for work, home interiors, so I don't have to knock off a wall to get the whole picture :-).

Here is an excerpt, from a Gary Winogrand interview, he shot with a 28mm most of his life (full frame, film):

"Winogrand: More or less, sure. Ideally, I wish I had a lens that took in my whole angle of vision, without mechanical distortion – that’s the headache with these things. Ideally, that would probably be the most interesting to work with. The 28 is probably where the mechanical distortion is least limiting – much less limiting than a 21. It’s closest to the angle of attention. It’s pretty close to at least my angle of attention. Probably the 21 is more so, but its just extremely limiting. You have to use it very carefully.Moderator: If you tilt it at all, you get very strange angles …
Winogrand: Well, it’s not a question of tilting; the minute you get in the center of people, a little bit close, you get another kind of nonsense happening, that falling over. In the end, those pictures wind up being primarily about what the lens is doing. If there was a 21 that didn’t behave that way, I’d probably use it."

Here is an interesting video of him too, he really shoots up close (zone focusing), then pretends something wrong with his camera. Not for me, I prefer the Bresson way (unless I use an Olympus with tilting touch screen shutter). Watching him makes me miss my M4 though ...

whatever it is, still good to have the "latest". LOL...

The 50mm f/1.2L was my walkaround lens when I was still using my 1D3 as my primary camera 1 year ago... equivalent to 65mm focal length, I like to stay a distance from the subject even when they realize me.

When I jump to Fuji X-system, I wanted to love the 35mm (50mm equiv) but I find that the AF cannot keep up with the subject (subjects give me very little attention) so I slowly move to my XF18 as my walkaround lens. Why? Because with 28mm focal length my subjects realize my presence and I was forced to get close to them in order to get my photograph. The people interaction, the bond, the joy of making new friends... this is what I gain on the x-pro1. I had a lot of fun in Sapa meeting new people.

Heck now I got my XF14 I still prefer the XF18 as my walkaround lens. 21mm is way too "close-up" to shoot people.

Xf 23mm!!!! So slow!!!!

Yah boy..

Waiting ever so impatiently for it.. Wonder how much it will cost also..

If it's like the 14mm.. I may get the Fuji x100s..

Hoho,

Well well, I have been warned not to post on Vshop account so here I am with a personal account. Better this way too since I really enjoying talking to everyone!

Some pictures from X-E1 with XF14 f/2.8 lens:
