Xf 18-55mm review

Good strategy. Seems this zoom is quite good though as some reviews has given thumbs up. I am a sucker for large aperture too and also ultra wide lens, so m just waiting for the 12mm Zeiss X Mount instead of getting this. Just haf to use my XF 35 and do feet zooming for now. LOL

Initially I am eyeing on the Zeiss too, but after months of usage on my x-pro1 I prefer to stick with XF lenses because Fuji has done a decent job in firmware upgrades on both the camera bodies and XF lenses. Not sure if Zeiss lens is firmware-upgradeable...

Agree that XF 35 did a magnificent job replacing my need to get any ASPH summicron or summilux to replace it. Tatz y I sold off my Summicron 35 ASPH and bought the Summilux 35 Pre ASPH instead for a different rendering purpose. Anyway, I believe on a 12mm ultra wide perspective, XF 14 may do the trick but knowing Zeiss quality on both the build and the IQ out from their lenses, it should be very awesome. I'll pass the XF 14 n get d Zeiss 12mm X Mount instead. To each their own preference, bro. Hope the XF 14 can satisfy your needs as I know most probably it cant do for me. Thanks.

Tatz y I sold off my Summicron 35 ASPH and bought the Summilux 35 Pre ASPH instead for a different rendering purpose. Sharing a summary of the review on the 18-55 lens:

Buy this lens if:
- You want capable general-purpose lens for Fujifilm interchangeable-lens cameras.
- You require good edge-to-edge sharpness.
- You want fast and quiet autofocusing and zooming.
- You require built-in image stabilisation.

Don’t buy this lens:
- For macro photography and extreme close-ups.
- If you're concerned about size and weight.

Same. A prime lens lover. Only reason for me to get a zoom is d telephoto range.

i need a wider angle than the 35mm..
so that i can take indoor shots..

waiting to get either the 14mm or 23mm..

Only 1 or 2 of them I ran auto contrast. The rest resized for web. The 3rd pic (from top) has auto contrast.

taken with the above-mentioned set-up at IS06400.... i am quite impressed with the hi-ISO performance of this little camera from fuji... :heart:

Check this website for a good review and comparison of the 18-55mm kit zoom and the superb 35mm F1.4 prime, as well as the 18mm F2 and 60mm F2.4 macro.

While the built quality and brightness of this kit zoom is better than most other kit zoom lens of other competitors, the MTF chart shows the resolution is not as sharp as the 35mm prime and the 60mm macro prime lens. It is not as sharp as the 18mm F2 prime lens too for 18mm shots, but better at the corners.

Sweet spot seems to be at 23mm, hitting the highest resolution at around F4, which is quite a lot lower than that of 35mm.

Think I will just get a 18mm F2 for wide angle shots.

i think its a bit unfair to compare a zoom to a prime....and even more unfair to compare it to the unusually highly rated 35mm prime =P

Went to MS Color last night, this lens is not available yet. But the X-E1 set with this lens is available. The silver colour one looks good.
