hi,

I am a user of Vosonic's X's Drive(Vp2030) since one month ago. To date, I have put about 3G worth of pictures through it. Since I have a 1G harddisk in the X drive, that means the harddisk has been "recycled" three times already.

A few things that I have discovered from the brief one month usage. First, I believe the firmware is not very robust. I have encountered corruptions of data when you stuff the X drive until it is full. It just overwrites the previous data with rubbish and left you swearing because you lose all the previous pictures.

Secondly, I believe there's no data verification mechanism in the firmware, i.e. picture files can be corrupted in the process of transfering from memory card to the harddisk and no one is wiser. I have encountered this problem almost consistently. Normally out of 500 pictures, there will be a few(2-3 pics) that only shows half a frame or have the lower half of the frame turned blue(as if the white balance setting was changed halfway during the exposure).

Thirdly, being a harddisk based product, it's rather sensitive to mechanical vibration/shock. My harddisk has started to develop bad sectors just after the a week of usage. Newer laptop harddisk should be considerably better in this respect, but the risk is still there.

With so many *life threathening* problems, one might wonder why am I still trusting enough to put a week's worth of photo into this product. The simple answer is that it enables me to shoot more without worrying about running out of memory, or having to buy heaps of expensive memory cards. How I wish there is 1G Smart Media card.... but that's another story.

Hi e905591s:

Did you try to update the X drive firmware to new version?
