For sale is this last of the Pentax M42-mount lens family; the SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8
It is a full-metal construction, with rubberised knurled focusing ring, which distinguishes it apart from the earlier Super Takumar and Super-Multi-Coated Takumar versions and is closer in age to the "K"-line of lenses. Focus is smooth, aperture ring clicks cleanly at each position.
Interestingly, Pentax aimed their sights at Zeiss lens , expectedly for such ambitions, Pentax quality level is very high and reflects a lot of hand-building and hand-inspection.The lens have a nice heft that exudes a robust quality. Almost every fast 50mm are classic Planar design, (Leica M excepted), but where most makers have economized by making the surfaces between the fourth and fifth elements flat, Pentax has always stuck with the original design and used cemented spherical surfaces there. Aside from being more expensive to manufacture, this results in a lens that is slightly less sharp at infinity in the plane of focus, but that has better off-axis aberration correction and thus, better bokeh or blur.
Lens is free from fungus, always kept in dry-cabinet when not in use. Very minor user wear on the exterior; hardly noticeable unless you look for it. The mounting face and threads are still in its black glossy finish, a sign that this lens probably stayed on one body. Overall, lens is in pristine condition. I'll rate it as 9.5
