Description:
Loved Pentax system for its great glass and intuitive controls but giving it up coz I really need decent video.

The autofocus with the 40mm Limited is blazingly fast and locks on with a very decisive snap. This is a mechanical lens and I very much prefer its tactile feel to electronically controlled lenses. You'll hear the focus snap long before the camera focus confirm beeps. Makes a difference to me. It feels like you are more connected to the tool. Think optical VS EVF. Same analogy.

Yes its not as quiet but really it feels more responsive. Personal preference. Because of its lack of motor in lens, it is extremely light and compact. You could put the lens in your trouser pocket.

This is sad. Sounds like I'm writing a eulogy ...

The lens has good edge to edge resolution and very pleasing bokeh. If you frame things in the thirds of frame, its usually sharper than the non-pancake lenses.

Flare control is great - as in it DOES NOT flare. But personally I LIKE lenses to flare and so really its a matter of taste.

The camera is very intuitive. With digital, I have been shooting full manual. My work flow is this:

When in a hurry, I press the green button which sets the exposure as per the P mode but for ONE occasion. I snap. I check the image and adjust exposure in M mode accordingly. Its fast because I don't have to turn the dial between P and M modes. Just press green button which is next to shutter.

Its also a very holiday camera. I get great shots on holiday. And then when I have time in the bus or on the plane, I can crop, add filters, change to black and white - and this includes being able to add a virtual red/yellow/green filter as per the old days when shooting on film. When I import into Aperture, my images are 90% there. In fact, I would say they are Facebook ready. You get to use a proper camera fast enough to capture the moment, and you get to 'instangram' it.

Oh. Camera body has built-in stabilization! That's amazing. Great camera for street photography because of its sheer speed. Stabilization is a plus when you want to do some building shots/night stuff.

High ISO is not bad. Its not as good as full frame for sure.
But noise structure is quite organic, making it feel more like film grain rather than noise.

I don't feel like selling now. But I know I won't bring two cameras on a trip now that I've got a 5D. If would keep it except for the fact that i'll use the money to buy lenses for my 5D. Now only got manual focus old lenses for it!

Ok enough fan boy rambling. Check pictures at www.timchen.eu
Contact me if you want more pictures taken with the camera.
For pictures of the camera, forget it!

This is a camera for shooters. Not poseurs. Condition is well kept, well loved but used for sure. Its been to England, Italy, Spain ...
