Up for your consideration is a highly sought after MS Optical Sonnetar 50mm f1.1.
This is a very well made artisan lens, hand assembled in Japan by the legendary Mr. Miyazaki-san.
It is designed to be extremely compact for a f1.1 lens, compared with the Canon dream lens and the Leica Noctilux. Shines when used wide open for dreamy portraiture. Used almost exclusively for my b/w captures.
Specs
- 2 layer multicoating on premium quality Tantalum glass.
- smooth German-made 14 blade iris for some very interesting and dreamy effects
- 5 elements in 4 groups
- weight 220g
- ingenious feature: the built-in coma adjustment ring that moves the rearmost lens element forwards and backwards, thereby slightly altering the lens focal length and with that its optical properties. It can be used to fine-tune optimal focus at any given aperture (i.e. to counterbalance focus shift, which is inherent to Sonnar designs.)
The lens is produced in very limited numbers. Earlier batches have been snapped up once they have been released.
