I have a D40 bought last June, with shutter count<7000. Both body and lens are in good condition as they are wiped after usage; and have been in a dry cabinet when not in used. I have some photos of them if you are interested.
I've recently upgraded to a D200 recently and so thought might as well sell off the spare body and lens. It really is in good condition, I am unwilling to let it go for anything less than $600.

This is a very good starter camera for anyone that wants to learn how to use a DSLR, it has all the features of a proper DSLR, without too many bells and whistles to overwhelm the new user.
