I was using this as a "bridge" camera before I bought a DSLR (which I just bought 3 weeks ago). My opinion of this "superzoom" camera is this: it takes excellent photos in good light -- nice, vivid and punchy -- but in low light at ISO400 or above it gets noisy; after all it only contains a PnS sensor. The best way to take night shots is on a solid base at long shutter speed at ISO200 or better, with VR off. The 18x optical zoom is 480mm equivalent and is quite useful.
Please see some reviews, especially the noisy pics at high ISO.
