Equipment Type: Compact
Equipment Brand: Leica
Equipment Model: Minilux
Price (S$): 450
Description:
Ok absolute honesty here.
I bought the minilux because I was simply mesmerized by the lens.
Detailed yet creamy and textured; theres something organic about images caught on this camera.
Yes, I knew that this camera was susceptible to the infamous EO2 error. But for vanity's sake, I took the risk.
Alas. Both the motor and shutter took turns to break down.
Fast forward. The camera is now at the repair shop, motor and shutter newly replaced, yet to be collected. Not a single shot fired by me yet. Hence I can safely assume this refurbished camera has quite a long way to go before it dies again. And oh, yes, it will die again. Quite some time away, but eventually.
Let me explain EO2 error - There is a belt that connects the shutter (that is between two glass elements in the lens) and the main camera body. Each time the lens extends and retracts, it causes wear and tear on the belt which eventually breaks and causes EO2. The space allocated for the belt is engineered to be so thin that it is extremely difficult to replace the belt by itself. The entire shutter mechanism needs to be purchased from leica and refit.
So basically its wear and tear on a part that is not really well made.
But is it worth the risk ? Well, go to flickr and see pictures taken with this lens. Unbeatable by any compact in its class and current price range.
Well at least you know that this is a brand new motor and shutter belt and it'll go pretty far.
Open to any offers.
