yes, it is true..but sometimes you will have to increase the ISO, once the camera says "BULB"...According to my humble opinion..

Hmm... That is very unlikely. BLUB is when we force the shutter speed to that range in manual. You would need a wireless release for it

What aperture you had set? Don't tell me you set all the way to F22? Even in F22 at ISO 100, with A350, shutter speed is about 15 to 20 seconds. Unless is really a very dark dark place.

I always shoot at ISO 200 for night scenery like yours. Can I ask why bulb mode u will want to use higher iso leh?

Unfortunately, yes I did..that time the place is quite dark...I used the 10 sec drive since I did not bring my shutter release with me.

Again, the main question is not about how to take nightshot with tripod. It is, how to use our A900 handheld to do a very nice shots without noises during concerts or nightshot...

if you are trying to get away with blown details on the lit areas, u can always take 2 or 3 shots more at different shutter speed. or another way, told to me by an Australian architecture photographer, you take few shots at different time of the day, before and after dusk, and merge them. Oh she told me that she never use HDR for merging.

Edit: Sorry... Reply to wrong person... Silly me...

A bit difficult in Singapore, everywhere we go got people in it... So, the "scenery" always change.

Err... High ISO != Night Vision.

If it is really too dark, then no point lah. If really so dark that and there is no visible light we can see, I doubt any camera can perform that well.

I thought, some suggestions were given in the earlier post? Have you tried? I don't have A900, so i cannot be sure how well the suggestion is.

actually it depends on where you shoot la... the Australian photographer who came to my school to talk takes a lot of urban architecture in the heart of Melbourne. It's all about digital dark room. Diana Snape is the photographer if you are interested. Sorry OT a bit. haa

Get yourself a big aperture prime like the Zeiss 135 F1.8. You'll have to live with higher ISO / slower shutter speeds if you're using a slow aperture lens.

Below are some shots taken in really low lit condition with the A700 using the slight overexposure method I described earlier in the thread.

By the way, found a post from another forum about suggestion on how to reduce noise in high ISO for A900.

http://s11.zetaboards.com/Alphamount_Singapore/topic/7053488/1/

I did a test using the recommended settings by DK... You still need to do a +1 to reduce the noise... no miracles there actually... the shadow details are still very muted...

I took 2 identical crops..

1st shot ISO3200, 0EV, Neutral creative style, +2 sharpness, -2 brightness, -1 Zone
IS03200-0EV-neutral.jpg

2nd shot ISO3200, +1EV, Neutral creative style, +2 sharpness, -2 brightness, -1 Zone
IS03200-1EV-neutral.jpg

You still need to overexpose drastically to get good noise control it seems... I took these shots around 7am Clementi Ave 5 from my room windows... I was facing the setting sun although by then there was no visible sun... I will be testing under such conditions soon... hehehe... not too optimistic about ISO3200...

Just curious, how much did you crop from the original picture?

EDIT: Maybe post the original image, so we can better appreciate the result.

BUT if you don't view at 100%, it looks pretty good actually... with the settings that DK recommended... file size limited by Photobucket... but I think it will make a good A4 print at least... DK says it will go up to 13"x19" print!!!

As always X.Fine JPEGs from me... :-)

Oh... This is ISO 3200? To be honest, I have no complaint about picture's noise.

Definitely not bad at all although a lot of fine detail is lost... no NR applied... that was the first thing I turned off when I bought the camera... RAW would be much superior as shown on DK's site where the level of detail in walls were quite stunning...

Maybe print a few Big picture with High ISO might give you the answer:). and....Remote control can be use to drive bulb mode. Everytime i try to reduce noise with Noise Ninja ... tweak here tweak there... the final thing i click is... CANCEL lol.

So why are you selling your A900? ;)
