Would you upgrade to a FlickR "pro" account?

I've almost uploaded 200 photos into my flickr account and now they tell me that once i hit 200 photos, only the latest 200 will be available to be seen, unless i upgrade to a FlickR "pro" account. Of course this will cost about USD24 per year.

I am wondering are there any advantages of maintaining a "pro" flickr account? How many of you do it and what were your reasons for doing so?

I suppose the flickr community is very large and there is some satisfaction in sharing all your photos but how many of you would actually pay for that satisfaction?

Thanks in advance for your views!

I do it because the price is pretty low for storage without limits.

Naturally, they will keep hosting your image even without a pro account, and theoretically if you want to have access you can easily maintain a bookmark directory to access all your photos with good organisation and discipline. I just wanted to save the trouble of having to do that.

That said, if you're actually looking for a good way to showcase your photos, and don't want to do too much DIY design or pay for a good web designer and go to trouble of getting your own site; Flickr is not really a good alternative and I would prefer sites like Pbase/Zenfolio.

i;ll go check out pbase or zenfolio too... sine there is no regularity in which i showcase my pictures i suspect that flickr or a similar site is more up my alley.

Another alternative is photobucket.

160gb will be used up very fast if you shoot often

HD can fail, so you may want to think about having a second drive to mirror your data.

:thumbsup: Totally AGREED to it as i have face this kind of problem before. Haiz .. is really painfully when you lost all your important data over night.. Better back it up asap.. if not when things happen it will be too late...

Haha I use 2 hd to store, just in case haha

Yea..But so far so good.. so its ok. Even 1 TB dont cost alot nowadays.
and i can access and view the photos faster. no need internet connection also. but thats me. to each of its own i guess.

i dont really like flickr pro account because after it expires. u cant view ALL your photos. only 200 again. i think its damn smelly way to make u keep renewing it. i rather just post on fb. maybe ill try 500px.com! it looks really fantastic!

if 500px.com can come out with a tool to migrate flickr photos over, i will most probably jump ship in 1.x years time haha

lol. i think thats very hard lah...but i think for me i can jump ship and re touch up my photos. i think my photo taste n style has changed and eyes also sharpened abit lol. so i think of going thru what i had and retouching and get over to px500 but.....lol thats gona be super time consuming lol

From what I see in 500px, there seems to be a some kind limit even for pro accounts, like not more than 20 images a week and charges twice as much as Flickr. 500px's interface is definitely nicer and simpler, and has some option to sell your photos. This site seems to want people to upload only high quality photos in smaller quantity.

500px is a nice alternative if you only want to showcase your best photos. Flickr is the way to go if you want to upload tons of photos and are not too concerned with the interface and presentation.
