Would you travel/tour with M9 or M4?

Traveling with with film is not too much a problem. Like plato says, just pack the whole lot in a large zip lock back and bring it on your carry on. Then when you go out, just bring how much you think you will use that day. I used to get the airport to hand check the film which was a hassle when I carried 80-90 rolls of film packed in transparent tupperware containers. Nowadays I don't bother and just pass them through the x-ray machine. No problems with Trix pushed to 1600. For me keeping it simple increases the photography enjoyment.

I think the issue with high ISO film is that they are more sensitive to x-rays compared to ISO 400 and below films.

Now the airport security is pretty tight... they don't allow hand checks even if you requested politely... at least that's what happened to me at dubai and paris airport. I think its a better idea to save the hassle and put the films in your hand carry bag

Used to think that too and insist on hand checking cos i always carried some Neopan 1600 with me for shooting at night. I even used to carry some cartridges of ISO 3200 film to show the airport security that I had higher than ISO 1600 film just to get the film hand checked. You tell them you push TriX400 to 1600, they would look at you blur so was easier to carry 3200 film cartridges and just show. Since a few years ago I don't bother already. So far I shoot max ISO 1600 and even with a few passes through various x-ray machines at the airports no problems. :)

I had films in & out of the aiport/train stations etc.

Some even non film safe. But I use only asa400 & below, non film safe also ok even though I push to 1600.

Usually what I do for my camera bag would be to remove all the accessories like lens hood, blower, cleaning cloth etc. & leave them into the check in lugguage.

I use the space taken up by the accessories to put in films. I can squeeze in more than 40 rolls of film when I remove inserts.;)

you referring to your black A&A "Image Smith" bag izzit?

Go with the heart, bring your M4... like what's already being said, you can always take over the LX3 & GRD3 for whatever digital coverage backup that you may require.

End of the day, what's crucial is, if the pics from your M4....erh, cannot make it when your wife starts comparing against what's coming out from the LX3 and GRD3, then you're in trouble! Hmmmmmmmmm...... i shall not go there

Whatever your decision, remember to just enjoy the trip... oh btw, i'm looking forward to ROD my 2nd National Service soon :gbounce: :vhappy:

Take the m4 since thats what you want! You wife is bringing her digital cam, so if you half-way lazy to shoot film there is still that option! And instead of letting the m9 collect dust for two weeks, can let me use! Hahahaha

Personally, I'd bring a digital as a backup. For my trip in January, I brought my Panasonic GF1 with the 7-14 and 20 as a digital backup, with my Bessa R2M with CV 35mm/f1.2, CZ 50/1.5 and Leica 90/2.8 as primary. For a coming conference trip, I probably will bring the same setup, but for M mount lenses, I am trying to figure whether to bring the CZ 50/1.5, CV 35/1.2, a CZ 25/2.8, CV 15/4.5 or CV 75/2.5. I have quite a few lens choices now, and a bit... not sure whether to just bring the CZ 50/1.5, CV 35/1.2, a CZ 25/2.8 and CV 15/4.5...

I am told got this principle:

The more gear you bring the fewer shots you take

ya bro, same bag as yours!

The back can fit 2 M bodies with lens, one Ricoh GRD3

I usually empty the front, even the inserts also empty, put that in check in luggage, when check in hotel then put everything back.

Actually in your case, I think the bigger your travel group, the less time you have to yourself to make the shots :p

let your wife handle your m9, and you handle your m4. haha.. problem solved..

This is my experience too. When I first started shooting film on holiday, I insisted on hand inspection. However, after my trip to Beijing last year, I have given up and don't bother anymore. At some of the subway stations in Beijing, they make you go through x-ray machines before you get on the train. I eventually lost count of the number of times my film got zapped. In the end, my negs still turned out ok.

Let me tell you my story, I went to China a lot last few years, I always bring many camera, mostly film, but always ended up using iphone. The thing about iphone it's not that it's better or convenient, but I could organize my images nicely, that's travel all about sometime, where have you been, when have you been, doing what etc. Sure film camera can do that too but you got to have good habit by labeling all your film and write some notes, if that's important to your travel. I would have do that if iphone was never born.

So bring just one system, doesn't matter film or digital.

Oh 1 more thing, to avoid complaining should have bring M9, just don't take bad photo with your M4.

I work with a certain company which requires its employees to travel a lot. I shoot with my M4-2 and tri-x exclusively...my cam and film has probably been zapped way more times than I can imagine. Its always in my cabin bag ( not check in ).Its fine though. And yeah...I recall my first time going overseas with film, I was abit unsure and scared I might lose some shots so I brought my EP2. Now I just don't bother.

...sometimes going minimal makes us squeeze our creative juices and think/work more for the desired shot. What you get is...results. Cheers!

I always carry film (m6) and digital (m8). If im in town its usually with 35 and 50 on each body. If I'm travelling I'll take 15 and 90 as well. I find digital and film are complementary and both are enjoyable. I use them interchangeably. Thats just me though. Bring what you think you would use.

I am in prague now
Pewpew alot with M4.
Sorry to say
The last kodak shop near astronomical clock where tri x is available
Has already closed down. I saw big kodak sign but emptied premises. So sad.

I brought m9 also.
So far the zeiss biogon 21mm is on m9.
I use M9 for wide angle scenes.
I use M4 most of the time. For normal shots
