would you cover an whole day event for free?

Hi all, just curious about this topic.
Would you cover an full day or maybe two day event for your friend free?
It's an important event thou.
You've to travel far, wake up early and reach home late, cover your own transport fee, maybe meals too... would you still do that?
For a normal friend?

If I were to do it, it will be either for a immediate family member or for a charitable cause (like selling the photos gained and giving all the proceeds to e.g. Building a Center for Homeless Children or Immediate Assistance for Catastrophe stricken areas like what CS did for Japan)

if you don't like to shoot for free than just say no,

if you afraid you can't turn down some request by distant relatives or friends, very easy,

set up a website, put some very very arty farty photos in your portfolio, those photos even you put upsize down also nobody can't tell what is that type,
you say you accept commission work, at $1000.00 per hour, and you will shoot only when something intrigue your artistic vision.

so whenever people asking you to shoot for free, just refer them to you site to check out your work and send you a site mail.

I guarantee that will be the last time you will hear them making such request.

Depend on nature of event.... Charity yes others most likely not free....

NO. No. No. I need to put food on the table, pay my bills, upkeep of equipment pay subcontractors upfront. Spare monies??? i would need to contribute that to my depleting CPF accnt to be able to justify the higher powers for me to purchase a flat as a self employed.

It's actually for a political events... I'm nt an expert but definitely not a beginner..location is really far and the timing is very early...friend as in used to be classmate.

NO. They have the $ to hire someone to do it or at least cover for transport and meals but somehow, those people on the ground just wants to impress their higher up that they can do it for free. had seen it happen to many times liow.

if it's for important people in my life, then probably yes. if it's for official events, there is no way i can cover it for free. at the bare minimum they have to cover my transport fees and provide meals for me.

I don't think there is a definite answer to that question. $ and friendship and reasons for taking that assignments can vary from case to case.

As a whole, only the photographer knows why or under what reasons he is willing or not willing.

actually i like this idea. gonna be making one of those scam sites for show.

would be a good way to deter ppl preying on students. especially now i'm busy studying

I think I will not esp if it is an important event. for "Family" only is ok. for very close friends, still can consider but probably will try not to.
