Would you buy a Nikon D3 even if you have an M8?

Been thinking of the Nikon D3 (seeing how the price is dropping) but the thought of acquiring a whole new set of lenses has kinda put me off.

Though, I am sure some M8 users here have still kept their DSLRs as options. How many people with the M8 here still regularly use their DSLRs and would you buy a D3?

I just feel like holding a machine gun sometimes....get what I mean? :bsmilie:

If you have the cash to burn, why not, top of the line DSLR body are way better than M8 in almost all departments, except for its size and weight of course.
a couple of pluses:

- weather sealing
- bigger sensor, more sensitive, less noise blah blah blah
- AF
- Ergonomics
- FPS

dun need a aperture of f1 to shoot at night is really the biggest advantage i feel. Night suddenly became day and ofcos u get shutter speed of 1/8000.

I have been holding out, waiting to see what the R10 would look like. I considered the D3 + 200mm f2 and the 400/600mm. Other than that, just waiting....

Cooper, I think you should consider waiting for the R10 since you like Leica products. September is just a couple of months away..

if you haven't got any nikon lenses yet and in no hurry, maybe can wait till photokina to see if canon is coming out with a 5D MkII. Canon has a wider range of lenses....fast primes like 24 f1.4, 50 f1.2 and 85 f1.2. ;p (or if you're tight on budget, get a 5D or even second one now. The price has fallen a lot.)

Not sure about you but the size and bulk and weight of a pro-DSLR like Canon 1D or Nikon D3 is a NO for me. I can still squeeze a 5D into a waist pouch but a pro DSLR is out of the question.

still like to use my nikon SLR lens for superwide and telephoto shots... while the M8 for 21-50mm range...

get the nikon d3? sure ... if it ever drops like.. less than 2.5 k ;p

but really, nothing beats the elegance of the leica :D

R10 huh? No wonder I see the prices of R lenses creeping up.

Cool, I'll see what happens. Thanks everyone! :)

R10 prices are actually coming down. The new R lenses are supposed to be AF.

Is it? I must be getting it wrong then. :dunno: Wah....AF.... sounds like fun territory for Leica now.

If you are considering a DSLR and you still have Leica R lenses, only way to go is Canon (1.3 crop to maximise the use of the R lenses range).

Why not 2x crop with 4/3?

Hi,

Not all R lenses can be mounted onto Canon DSLRs. With FF, such as the 5D and 1DMk3certain R lenses such as the 19 mm (2nd version), 24 mm Elmarit, 35 Summilux and 28-90 mm zoom will need to have the mirror shaved or the lens modified.

The rumoured R10 is an AF camera, but I hope the current R lenses can be used. I have the DMR, but I am just waiting to have a FF sensor.

N.S.

If only nikon were to put that D3 CCD into the SP RF:lovegrin:

OT. sorry.

soon soon.... Nikon's already spreading that D3 CMOS chip around fast. Photokina will be exciting.

Maybe D700 :), lighter.

I'll still use the Dslr for other applications such as macros or extreme tele. The rangefinder still falls short in this two department.

Cheers,

Ha, I should change the title of this thread to; 'Would you .... D700.....'!

Anyone interested in my M8?
