f/1.2 is only about 1/2 a stop faster than the f/1.4
if u use f/1.4 at iso3200 for those really unimaginable lighting conditions, what's 1/2 more stop of post processing u going to do to the noise that will make a difference?
let's say u have to hand hold at 1/5, f/1.4, iso3200.
down the shutter speed a little more at 1/4. u get 1/3 stop more light.

The price don't justify also.

The DOF at f/1.4 is already unbearable.
But if u like f/1.2 bokehs, then it's worth the high price.

:)

one mans meat....
might not justify to you... but half stop, and bokeh... well worth it to me. not to mention resolution, CA, performance wide open, etc etc...

The reasoning above kinda ignores one little point: Canon's 50/1.4 is *HOPELESS* at f1.4. Soft fuzzy images, maybe for web use, but no way it'll hold up in a large print. Only for desperate situations and 4R prints.

85/1.2L users do not hesitate to use it wide open, and if the new 50/1.2L is like that, well, Canon might have a winner there.

There is probably a dual-reason to a 50 f1.2L ...
besides a fast standard lens, on the APS-c cameras like EOS 400D, EOS 30D, 20D etc. ... its a potrait lens equiv. to the 85/1.2L for FF.

when you stop down the lens even a little, it always makes sharper images compared to the same f stop on another lens at wide open

yeah... I never expect it to be an "L" tho.

But with the rumored price if 1.6K USD I should have expected the red L.

Okie... who want to buy my 50/f1.4

Yep, i did leave out that point.
Coz i can't say whether the f/1.2 is good wide open, it's not available yet.

Suggest u don't jump to conclusions too, since u don't know whether it's as good as the 85/1.2 wide open. We'll know the answer when and if it comes out.

Also no point starting rumours because if it is really untrue and everyone believes that it is true, then you will just fall on your own sword.

At a more "affordable" price over the 85/1.2L II too... might be worth considering if you don't mind the weight and bulk. Would be prudent to wait for reviews by users before plonking down your cash for one.

I tot this is one of the more likely rumour floating around. Mabbe Canon is really trying to make sone higher resolving lens for the 22Mpix cam.
Hmm, they've done 50 and 85, wonder which lens next.

A redesigned 24/1.4L or 1.2L would be great. The current 24L doesn't quite make the cut in terms of image quality.

Let's see, the current 351.4 and 135F2 doesn't seem like they're due for upgrading. 24 probably could do with one, and maybe 100 sometime in the not-too-distant future. Then the fussy users' call for higher resolving power lens would be more or less satisfied. Unless someone comes up with lens adaptors with high precision AF enabled.

Maybe 200mm f1.8L MkII (IS)? Due for a remake already. IS would come in handy.

I'm hoping for a 100mm f2.8 Macro IS. That would be great and welcome by most macro shooters.

I think this one is in the pipeline already. Would be interesting to see how it effects the value of the Mk I 200/1.8L should it be released.

If have, I'll very likely buy it. One huge reason I dun shoot macro is becoz of my shaky hands.

Tell me about it. :( Even a micro-shake can affect the sharpness of the image...making tripod a necessity but a huge PITA to set up...especially when shooting insects and invariably you will somehow frighten the bugger away when you try to set up your tripod.

Well IMO Canon shouldn't have put IS in 70-200mm f4L...its the macro lens that needs it more!

i hope the 50/1.2L is sharp wide open; not just normal sharp, but the legendary kind of sharp... man, drooling already.
