Using a 24mm zoom on a 40D myself, it can get squeezy at times but I deal with it. It's a personal decision so you might want to borrow a zoom with a 24mm range and try it out for a few days. I use the tele end more often so I think it's fine. Otherwise, pair it with a 10-22mm.

For walk around, 24 is still okay.
I only find problem when I shoot indoor (especially cramped room), where I need to change to my 10-22. But generally, if I were to walk around for general photo shooting, my 24-105 is a great lense.
For landscape shoot, i don't think there is much interesting landscape for shooting (my personal opinion), so 24 is still good.
The only thing is 24-105 is f4. I wish it can be a f2.8, as sometimes in general shooting when shooting people, i want a shallow dof for the bokeh.

currently considering this lense and 580ex II flash. But money so tight even though the deal i am getting for both of them is really attractive.

it is a very sharp lense, with good zoom range. if only it was an f2.8

If it's 2.8, ppl will complain about the weight...
the F4 is really a draw back, but for using during day time is no problem at all, image quality is great, sharp and focusin is fast. for night shot, i usually use a tripod, so is not a problem unless shootin ppl as subject, i use a flash. 24 is wide enof for me, but is not wide enof when u come to think about it, so is 17mm. 10-22 will be my next target to solve dat problem. ;p

U've the IS to compensate in low-light so it's not a problem. I've used this lens before and it's a really great lens to shoot with.

Ermm...if low light usually there's handshake due to low shutter speed. If lighting is very low then IS also won't help, even f/2.8 too.

What are you talking about? IS is to compensate exposure stop. Apart from freezing the extra 1 stop of motion and borkeh, I see no advantage of F2.8.
Plus, at 105/4, the bokeh might be comparable to that at 70/2.8, since the diameter of the entrance pupil would be 26mm for the 24-105 and 25mm for the 24-70.

What are you talking about? What is "exposure stop"? IS is a stabilisation module to help with hand-holding ability. If the correct exposure is 1/15 and the 3-stop IS is used, the motion blur will look like you shot it at 1/120.
may be can try this during low light, shoot at 2 stop under expose (shutter speed = 2 stop faster) to get the speed. den correct it during PP to get the correct exposure. not sure if this work for night shot. but i use this method during low light when i dun wanna pump my iso too high to get the speed

Actually to be honest with you, I don't think there's notihing much to shout about. I actually compared the 24-105 and efs17-85 on 400D today and getting almost similar quality and color. Tested the same 24-105 on 5dii and compared with 28-90 and 75-300 and still get similar results. Wonder if I got a lemon though :\
The 24-105L and kit lens 28-90 same result? Bro, how u test one? Tripod, MLU, bright sunlight, F16?
