Hi seniors and peers,

Just wanna seek your opinion on this. Friend offering 2nd-hand C700UZ, 3 months old, with 8+32MB card, pouch. Everything mint condition. $678. Worth it? Beauty of it is - can pay by installments! Worth it or not?

just for your reference, I sold the same package (but cam is 9 mths old), plus lots of other freebies like camera bag, silica gel, lens cleaning paper etc for $580. Not trying to discourage you lah but just giving you a reference.

So the question now is whether the extra $90 is worth it for the 6-mth difference, right? Opinions?

yup if you put it that way...

also looking at another perspective, a new c720uz is about $800. So that's another factor to consider...

Let me think aloud here ok...

Supposing we put C700UZ and C720UZ to be on par lah (each has their pros and cons to make up for their diff features)

Brand new C720UZ - $800
3 month old C700UZ - $670 (round off)
depreciation = $130 over 3 mths or about $43 a month.

Brand new C720UZ - $800
9 month old C700UZ - $580
depreciation = $220 over 9 mths or about $24 a month, but with freebies.

Seems worth it if I count this way....
But dunno if depreciation can be counted this way. If I calculate this way, it's as if a cam without warranty left is worthless like that...if you get what I mean. *ponder ponder*

Plus the option of instalments very attractive....:dunno:

Actually CP selling 720uz @ $760 w/o GST + 2 x 32mb SM free

Not trying to influence ur choice, cos I dun really know which DC is better, but just a piece of info for u.

Have u already tried out 700uz, satisfied with the pic quality?
=)

I won't call the pix quality of the C700UZ good, but can get by for an average user like me loh, dun really need to print...

I won't be able to afford the C720UZ at CP unless they offer instalment too. So, my question really is, is this C700UZ at $678 , pay in instalments, worth it, or should I wait till I've saved up enough (maybe 4 mths down the road) to buy a brand new cam?

Hee, waiting for more feedback ok, then decide tomorrow. :rbounce:

No one else has comments? Then I'm going to buy the cam from my friend liow...

Anyone knows how come the C720UZ start off so cheap? (I mean, as compared to the C700UZ when it was first launched)Anyone bought it liow?

The diff is 100 bucks. not worth it imho. The 720 seems better to me altho the zoom's reduced. If u must get it from ur fren, then u shld ask for a lower price....

Firstly, I think you shd ask your fren to give you a better price. Sometimes its easier to buy 2nd from a stranger rather than a fren I guess.

As to your question why 720 is cheaper, it pretty much the same reason why Canon A40 was sold cheaper than the older model A20. Many say its due to the falling prices of elcetronic parts and the LCD.

Actually I prefer the C700 to the 720 coz of one reason - the shutter lag time in the 720 is longer. My ex fujifilm 4900z's shutter lag time I already buay tahan liow (couldn't catch a single shot of my hamster unless I held her still!) and if 720's tested to be worse...

Thanks for all your advice guys. I guess it's not a "bargain" deal after all, but still reasonable plus the option of instalments....so I'm going for it. Copland u're right, buying from a friend is sometimes more difficult than buying from a stranger! :p And thanks for the piece of info on why newer models get cheaper and cheaper, same as PCs eh?!
