I think your pics will be blue if u go Ikelite. Ur strobe will not fire as u have no sync cord.

Wait.. i think u have no photo too. U didnt include the price of the 100mm lens, so no lens.

The listed price is $900USD.... about $1300+ SGD. :bsmilie:

Oly EP-1 = $1000++
Casing for E-P1 = $1200
Panasonic Macro Lens (not too sure works on E-P1 or not) = $1300
Ports for Macro Lens = $$$ ??

Total = $3500++++ (no strobe light)

Ikelite casing for 40D = $$2100
Port for EF 100mm Macro L = $500-600 ??
Inon strobe ligth (Z240) = $900

Total = $3500+++

Err.... did you read this part where I posted below....

True..... but most of us here already either own a Canon/Nikon DSLR and most likely.... also a macro lens. :bsmilie:

For your info.... I'm using a Inon Strobe, won't fired even with Syc-cord unless re-chip the chip inside the ikelite casing. What I wrote was an EXAMPLE of the cost of a brand new system... compare with a system most of us are already using.... it wasn't meant to show whats the cost of each system. :nono:

what zambullidor is trying to say is, it's not a fair comparison because you have different baselines.

Hahaha.... it wasn't even meant to be a comparison between system. It was written more as a 'What Would Be....' the cost of getting a new setup (Camera brand) & getting casing for a system most of us already own.

Like others already said.... they still like getting the new 4/3 system because of the small size. While ppl like me would rather stick with what we have.... if we have the $$$$ for it :bsmilie:

For a canon DSLR inside an ikelite housing, you can use fibre optic sync cords and an Inon D-2000 or S-2000 or similar strobe w/o the need for hard wired sync cords. Canon's pop-up flash can be fired even if it's only releases partway, as is the case when you try to 'pop' the flash inside.

you don't sound very knowledgeable when it comes to u/w photography so best to do more research before 'firing' at someone.

When building up a system, people often forget or do not include into the calculation the 'extras' that you have to buy to make the system usable. Esp when building up a DSLR system for u/w photography. It costs a lot more than you might think. :)

well, it's not the first u/w casing for a micro four thirds camera. Seatool makes a casing for the panasonic gh1 which costs a bomb (3466usd). then we have 10Bar which makes a casing for the panasonic gf1.

Maybe to correct, it is the only brand that is making their own housing for the micro four thirds.

Well to sum it up, the Oly housing for the E-PL1 (yes only for this camera) is good for those that are looking to use somewhat of a hybrid. Minus those that do not have lenses yet. While there is a lack of lenses on the micro 4/3, I am sure there will be adaptors by third parties to suit the housing for both macro and WA - FE.

The housing can use optical sync since the camera has a pop-up flash and you can use it with third party strobes like Inon and S&S.

Benifit of using this over Ikelite? Weight.. it is so much lighter than Ikelite for sure.

I am in for this system with the WA lens.

very tempted to switch already... my back cannot take all the load!!
