It's funny isn't it? Owen Hargreaves is the only english who score in the penalty shootout, and he's the only one playing in German league. The EPL star players all cannot take pressure one..
Wonder whether michael ballack will start to miss spot kick for Germany in future, after transferring to Chelsea.
It has got nothing to do with the league. Its the men themselves. Germany took those penalties like men, professional. Its like 2nd nature to them, full of confidence. Argentina was blown away by their confidence. I saw those spot kicks, those are awesome. Those English took them like school boys. Still said they trained! Its all in their head. Mentality.
Its really stupid of them I tot they will be full of confidence after holding Portugal with only 10 men for almost an hour. Can see, Portugal was shakey with their penalties too. Missed 2, not saved but missed completely. They could have sized the day and take their chances. Penalites are fair game be it 10 or 11 men but..... :thumbsd:
Lampard and Hargeaves had a deep frown, look worried. Gerrard's face is all white, tot he saw a ghost. Carregher was behaving like a school girl, shaking everywhere! Its was hard on him as he only took 2 penalties before that. And I really dunno why he was asked to take them. Somemore specially sub him in, like he is a old pro in penalties.
Overall performance wasn't too bad as their defence held up the whole time. Its the midfield that failed. 4-5-1 formation requires the midfielders to chip in attack a lot but all flop. Rooney was fighting for loose balls, a lost cause and he hardly had a shot on goal. Its no surprise that he dropped back and try to win the ball and when your lone SC had do that, its a goner! No wonder he got sent off. Crouch came on and was very tough for him with 10 men only. There is nothing he can do even when he won the ball. Pass to who? What happened to the midfielders?
J. Cole was lost. Beckham injured, not at his best. Lampard and Gerrard will flop at crunch time. Both are at their best with their clubs and qualifying but when it comes to the real deal, both Based on their Euro 04 and thise WC, I think both are not good enough for England at the main competition proper. Lampard was supposed to chip in with goals but got none. Gerrard was suppose to drive the midfield but drove nothing and created no goals. He scored 2 thou.
If not for Beckham, England would had gone out long time ago. He created the OG against Paraguay, crossed for Crouch for the opening goal in T&T match and scored the FK against Ecuador. Sweden was J.Cole's best performance. Lampard got nothing to show for. If Hargreaves was there to protect the defence, what happened to Lampard and Gerrard?
It is quite amazing that Eriksson failed to spot his 1st eleven's failings. Man Utd proved early last season that Rooney cannot play as lone striker. Struggled for goals. Liverpool also struggled with Crouch alone upfront. And when both of your attacking midfielders, Lampard and Gerrard not producing the goods, he still stuck with his defensive 4-5-1 formation. This formation requires the midifelders to chip in attack a lot. Even Crespo/RVN and those lone SC players will struggle. Fat man Ronaldo can play alone upfront but if his midfielders are like England's, he will only stand there and look forlornly!
