<wonglp> Traveling with my mirrorless pen

Hi thanks d3vilZ for dropping by, for epl1+3 lenses, a slingbag (no brand) + lens bag is what I use which can hold my tripod as well. I didn't bring for this trip and still overseas, will share when I'm back home. I use a Sirui T025 tripod, a light carbon fibre tripod designed for mirrorless camera ;)

thanks for Sirui T025 tripod info, 30cm when folded is really good, I'm looking forward to replace my tripod (Sirui carbon too, but 50cm folded) with that now :D

Brother love your shots with 7.5 fish eye. Me poisoned liao...contact me when you are back. Like to get some tips for my coming trip.

Thanks for dropping by, Ken, glad you like it, still learning how to use it, so not sure if my tips will help, back this weekend. Stay in touch:)

Haha, just got it last evening from another CSer and took some shots at dinner with few friends whom I have not met for 41 years!!!. Very useful because the restaurant was very cramped. Looks good with build in flash (little dark on the sides). Quite sharp! Heck what do these old fellows know and especially with failing eye sight....can recognize their own face happy liao lo... Catch up when you are back.

I do know the CSer pretty well:)
Pretty sharp, one note though, be careful where you place your fingers, and your hair may obstruct the shot. Also, do remember to put IS to 8mm otherwise it's easy to get blur shots..

#83 Mysore Palace, in Mysore City near Bangalore/Bengaluru.

A palace that's magnificent in the day and on festive nights, it's even more beautiful, unfortunately was on business trip so only had a couple of hours there, luckily though, the weather was very nice for photography as well as for this time of the year, temperatures tops 28oC. This is perhaps the next most popular tourist destination after Taj Mahal in Agra, definitely a destination not to be missed. 5 shot exposure blended.
E-PL1+Samyang Fisheye 7.5mm.

What a maginificent piece of architecture even from far, hope my capture shows that. Was waiting for more birds to come into the frame, but had limited time... E-PL1 + 20/1.7

Thanks for dropping by!

Only PP I did here was some level adjustment, as for the sun, it's more of stopping down the aperture, to create the starburst effect.

Exif data, fyi

Exposure 0.013 sec (1/80)
Aperture f/22.0
Focal Length 9 mm
ISO Speed 200

#87 Peeking through

Here's one more for you taken at Taj Mahal, Agra, India. E-PL1+45/1.8 with spot metering, no PP.

I think Singaporean teens would shun when they see someone with camera taking them, but not in India...E-PL1+Samyang 7.5mm MFT mount.

#92 Taj Mahal

It was a good weather day, unfortunately no tripods allowed in the compound. Nonetheless having a blur sky is certainly more than anyone can ask for. Using Samyang 7.5mm Fisheye len + E-PL1. Only a little fisheye effect, maybe defishing software will help? Did not bring 9-18mm on this trip as I was also carrying Ricoh GXR+12mm lens. The pros and cons of using mirrorless, sometimes dunno which to bring for trips  ;p

Hi there

Was reading up info on m4/3 cameras and found your site. Great pictures u have there! 1 of the camera i'm reading on is the EP3 which i know you have. Do you have a G3 too? If so, can u share which do u think is better?

I am upgrading from a 5yrs old pns to a m4/3 as i want better quality pictures which a pns cannot give me. My requirements is for shooting babies/kids, good low light (for night shots and in places with nice ambience), and i like the bokeh effect (i know that m4/3 cannot compare to a DSLR in terms of bokeh but i want to carry my camera everywhere, so i gave up the thot of DSLR).

Anything else that you need to know to advise me? hehe...

If you do not have a G3, then maybe you can advise me based on the EP3 for my requirements? thanks! :D

Hi Sunshine00, thanks for viewing the thread! It's great that you had set your thoughts on m43 and identified some key needs, many can be confused which to choose.

I do not have G3 though I know quite a fair bit about it, here's my 2 cts on the 2 cameras. Both are equally capable for your needs.

I had owned EP1, EP2, EPL1, EPL2, EP3 (most Olympus Pen), and not any Panasonic, I had played with GF1, G3 briefly
Mainly the reasons following, YMMV though;):

- Olympus out of camera jpeg colors, I get nicer colors than Panasonic especially skintones
- In body stabilizer (IBIS) vs Panasonic (lens stabilizer), I prefer IBIS for manual lenses which I use quite a bit
- International warranty ( i travel alot and sometime buy stuff overseas so international warranty really helps)
- Very fun art filters, it's really fun!

Panasonic though has following strengths:

- better Hi ISO ( this part due to Panasonic makes the sensors and they are easily 1-2 generations ahead, e.g. G3 uses 16MP sensor, while Ep1-EP3 uses 12MP, G3 was launched ahead of Ep3, only the soon to be launched Olympus OM-D EM-5 is using a 16MP, not sure who's sensor that is)
- They are some people who experience a more accurate and reliable AF with Panasonic than Olympus, only with EP3 was AF fast but still at times quirky though they are some tricks to go around that. In terms of AF speed, I don't think anyone needs to split hair between Ep3/G3.
- G3 has swivel screen and EVF!!! Both this feature are not available on EP3.
- Better video

So in short, if you think oly colors is not advantage, IBIS not needed, international warranty, it makes sense to get G3 which is a great body at a great value. It's cheaper than EP3. of course, one can be easily swayed by the looks of EP3;)

You can also view the panasonic image threads and more olympus image thread to help you further.

There's also a good portable lens range in m43 compared to other mirrorless.

I hope I am as neutral though I had been using Olympus for past 5 years. If any further questions, feel free to ask ;)

In Shanghai this week, it still freezing cold like 8oC! Surprise that this time of the year it's hasn't warmed up yet, I was under dressed, numbed fingers as a result...

#93 Pearl of the orient taken from IFC
EPL1+Samyang Fisheye 7.5mm F3.5 MFT. 3 shots exposure blended. Been using a lot of this lens this days. Like the way some of the impossible angles can be taken with the lens. Sometimes, my hair or finger get caught in the picture too:embrass:
