Wireless remote for OM-D

went down to swisscophoto today.

turns out that the wire that was given to me which connects the receiver to the camera is a faulty 1
Uncle says they have never seen such a problem before also.

they opened up a new box and gave me a new wire. problem solved works okay now

quite unlucky u :P anyway, my cable connector (to the camera one), the head (metal) comes off easily. i wonder if they sell a shorter cable btw.

U can try asking
No harm :)

Strictly speaking, these are not "wireless" remote controls.
They require a receiver inserted onto to flash hot shoe, with a cable or "wire" from receiver plugged into the camera.
The transmitter then sends a signal to the receiver to trigger the shutter.
This is bulky, ungainly, costly and deprives the user of the hot shoe while the receiver is inserted.

That's a pedantic response...the wireless part refers to between transmitter and receiver.

And the receiver doesn't HAVE to be inserted into the hotshoe, that's for convenience...when I need the hotshoe for a flash (or flash trigger) I simply attach the receiver to my strap or tripod with a rubber band,

It is a very bad after-the-damage-has-been-done solution made necessary from an even worse design decision when creating the Olympus MFT camera body. They should have the infra red receiver built in.

What damage? I've never damaged any camera using a wireless remote.

A true wireless remote control would just communicate via infra red to the camera body which would have the infra red receiver built in.
It would be small, handy and inexpensive. Does not deprive the photographer of the use of the hot shoe. Has no unsightly wires/cables and bulky receiver sets on the camera body.

Canon and Nikon got the design decision right.

Olympus USED TO HAVE infrared remotes (look up the Olympus RM-1), but they were a pain in the butt...they required line of sight, you had to point at the camera and quickly hide it and look natural. Also the remote HAD to be pointed to the FRONT of the camera, you couldn't use the remote behind the camera (unless you were shooting a close, white surface where you could bounce the iR off of)!

Anyway, if you looked at the wireless remotes we've been talking about most of their sales go to Nikon and Canon owners...none of the high-end remotes I bought came standard with Oly cables...I had to purchase a separate Oly cable.

I also use one of these wired wireless remotes with the CANON I use at work!

was considering to buy either the aion or giga t pro ii. Anybody know of any main differences? I do know that the aion reaches up to 60m and the giga up to 100m.

I would also like to use it on both my olympus and nikon camera. Where can i get wire heads? Thanks.

How does it look mounted on cam?

Not really good looking when mount onto horseshoe :) but can tape it to the tripod.
Functionally is fine, good range and reception too.

Bro, I see a crumpler logo in the background, what bag do you have? Is it sufficient to carry the OMD with 4 lenses and spare battery / SD card etc?

but the remote does not have a timer for long exposure?

Bro, OT lor :) .. it's my Crumpler strap.. To carry OMD with 4 lenses and spare battery, a good size will be the 6 MDH.

Was about to ask the exact same question as well. Any bros with experience with either remotes can give some inputs?
