Its not really a matter of gathering everybody's resources to get a big studio shootout. After all, you would have realised from website on Minolta's wireless flash and Sulhan's studio attempts that it doesn't require more than 2 flashes, and still great results even with 1 flash. Other simple resource include a daring and creative mind and some simple materials which can be gotten from the bookshop (reflectors, colour transparencies as coloured gels).
Its more challenging for us to just have a great shootout mainly cos most of us don't have studio lighting experience. For the few folks who regularly hold studio sessions, you'll learn that even with the benefits of lightmeter and studio lights (makes light metering and control so much easier), they still took some time to learn.
I'm not trying to discourage the studio shootout, but rather even if the shootout takes some time to come to fruition, a small shootout or even more experimenting at home would add to invaluable experience when we share ideas or even come together for this shootout. Anyway, I'm all for it for folks to continue to learn to create wonderful pictures without investing heavily on expensive equipment. Its all in the mind.
