Winner of the BJP's International Photography Award

And people thought that the winners of Canon Photomarathon was "blah".

I had fun reading some of the suggested captions over at TOP. :bsmilie:

Is amazed by teh awesomeness.

judges' eyes is different . . . ;)

when you eat too much of abalone, lobster etc . . . you suddenly realise that a piece of fishball is fantastic and it is the BEST.

The winning photo makes me feel very good about myself because I realize I can take much better photo than the winner :D

May be that is the intention of the judges :D

haiz....

every competition, also got people make noise about the top prize.

why don't you channel the energy into making photos that make you happy?

maybe one day, you will enter a competition with a photo that makes you proud, win it... and then you will see a whole bunch of people on the net laughing at your photo. think about it. ;)

I believe that the judges love the bread in the plastic bag.

some good advice:

http://rising.blackstar.com/being-a-photography-contest-judge-can-try-your-patience.html

Once you’ve submitted your best work as professionally as possible, you’ve done your part. Don’t worry so much about whether you win or lose.

Judging can be highly subjective. All judges view photographs through the prism of their own photographic experience, expertise and preferences.

For example, at a recent event two judges voiced passionate opinions about an image of a woman bathed in green light.

The first judge said the green light enhanced the picture.

The second judge said the light made the subject look as if she were very sick with a tropical disease.

At another competition, an image showing a large black space with a shadowy person in one corner of the print was presented. Most of the judges dismissed the image as a poorly constructed picture. But one judge liked it.

The judge, whose background was not as a photojournalist, declared: “This is the perfect editorial image — it has a lot of space so you can put text all over it.”

winner, loser, it doesn't matter.

life is a marathon. you may think that it's about getting to the front and ensuring that no one else is in front. but sometimes you look behind, and think that there's no one else and feel happy about it, when the world has left you behind by a mile. i think at the end of the day, it's not important to see whether you are better than X, just because X is someone. or feel less happy when you find out that you didn't do as well as Y, when Y is a loser in your opinion.

it's not important. look at your images, grow by yourself. comparisons are just a silly part of life that we should all get out of, and focus on making ourselves better than before.

Just can't help it after watching too much CSI.:bsmilie:
Look like a crime scene, the man was "murder" and the CSI photographer took this photo but somehow send to the wrong department for investigation.

How do we make ourselves better if we do not even comprehend why that was a winning photo?

I agree that judging, especially photos is very subjective but there should still be some reference or guideline. It is quite obvious that nobody other than the judges appreciate that photo .. I certainly don't

The picture is nicely exposed! No Overblown highlights or shadows. Also looking at the subject.. it gave me this awesomeness feeling of "why didn't i think of that!" Well whatever the reason for his winning is.. i would definitely say congrats to him.

when I first saw this ... I thot is refering to our own Golden Mile. There are lots of people sleeping around after late night there as well. Should have sneak up to take a shot.

I don't understand what is so powerful about the photo? Maybe people who have been to S. Africa would know better.
