Allow me to quote something somebody important said sometime ago: - Somebody Important Therefore we must make our old people work so long as they can work. And the cleaner job is one of the few available to them. Anyone who suggest returning tray is not only depriving the old ones of a job, they are also going against garment policy. :bsmilie:

If cleaner is one of the easily find job for elderly citizen and the gahment want them to continues working and contribute their CPF for old age, then the gahment should look into and mandatory with law to control those cleaning contractor and make sure their cleaner get pay well or guarantee with minimum salary recommended by labor moment.

Firstly, the food court owner/operator is the one who employs and pays for the cleaners to clean and clear the tables at eating houses in Singapore. Hawkers and food courts the same. They are the ones who charge the exorbitant rental rates for the food hawkers to ply their trade, and as such have to increase the costs for a plate of food they cook for you.
They are the ones who walk around twice a day and download the stalls transaction figures and deduct their rental charge immediately. No way i would want to work in that thankless industry when the food court owner takes more than the hawker can afford to pay, hence the long, long hours with no days off to speak of. My hat goes off to them. (If i wore a hat anyway) Anyway, the old folks who work cleaning the tables do so because they want to. If they are really stuck for money to buy food or other daily needs there are a host of govt funded groups that provide up to 100% of the costs of their needs.

And as for the cleaning thing, next time you drop into the restaurant at MBS, when you ask the maitre-de for your check dont forget to ask him the way to the kitchen so you can take your tableware and do the dishes.

Do you know that 2 years ago when garment realize sg's productivity is gutted by a decade of cheap FTs, and when they came up with this productivity drive nonsense, initially 3 industries were targeted, two of which are the food and construction industries? :bsmilie::bsmilie:

By pushing more tasks to the customers, the economic costs of the tasks is now borne by customers, yet they are booked under the existing cleaners, i.e. it seems the cleaners are doing much more with lesser manpower. Hence the bosses can report improved productivity! Although the cost is hidden with the customers and has not really gone down ! :bsmilie:
