Depends entirely on what you wish to achieve.
Unmodified to shoot IR photos hoping to have no shakes/ movement using fast shutter speed? Then can forget the whole thing.
But to shoot landscape with long exposure- certainly can.

It will work only if you know how to do custom white balance for D90...

Additional to what SDW has said, u must pray hard that there isn't much strong wind, or rather, no wind at all.

If not, the leaves or branches will turn out blurred.

Err... so how to do it? As in, a fixed K or use a white sheet with filter on? Teach leh.
